Rhea just snorted. “Whether I go to bars or not, whether I’m a ‘respectable woman’ or not, is none of your business. Your son can’t control himself and assaults women. I’m pressing charges, so you can just wait to see him behind bars.”
Rhea was a lawyer, armed with a sharp tongue and an imposing presence, and Blythe was no match for her. Blythe turned to Winona, trying to leverage her position as a mother. “Zayden is your half-brother. You can’t just stand by and do nothing. Your friend wasn't seriously hurt, so just talk her into dropping it. We’ll cover the medical bills. How about that?”
Winona once held onto a glimmer of hope for a mother's love, but Blythe's years of neglect, capped by her recent attempt to force Winona to donate bone marrow to Zayden, had completely extinguished that hope. Her voice was icy, each word sharp with frost. “My friend was assaulted. It’s only right that she seeks justice. Blythe, if you can’t teach your son how to behave, then let the law do it.”
Hearing Winona call her by her first name and show no concern for Zayden's fate, Blythe let out a bitter laugh. “If I had known you’d turn out so vicious, I never would have given birth to you!”
Even though Winona had lost all expectations, the words still stung.
Rhea, who knew all about Winona’s history with Blythe, couldn’t hold back. She practically spat the words at her. “You call yourself a mother? If anything, Winona was the unlucky one for being born to you. You think you did such a great job raising your kids? You raised a son who’s a menace and a daughter who sleeps with other women’s men!”
Blythe’s blood pressure shot up. She grabbed the table to steady herself, nearly fainting.
Just then, Tallulah returned from the restroom and saw her mother swaying. “Mom, what’s wrong?” she cried, rushing to support her.
Blythe pointed a trembling finger at Winona. “This ungrateful brat is trying to kill me with anger.”
Tallulah glared at Winona. “Winona, how could you treat Mom this way? Apologize to her right now!”
Yulen shot Winona a cold, hard look before lifting Tallulah into his arms and carrying her away.
Forgetting all about her son, Blythe hurried after them.
Winona knew she had been set up by Tallulah again, her nails digging into her palms.
Rhea fumed, “Is Yulen blind? He’s just taking advantage of the fact that you don’t know how to play the victim!”
Winona just smiled, a flicker of indifference in her eyes. She didn't want to talk about Yulen and Tallulah anymore.
