The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 52

After giving their statements at the station, Winona took Rhea home. The first thing Rhea did was jump into the shower, where she stayed for a full half-hour. When she came out, she was still muttering in disgust. “Just thinking about that scumbag’s hands on me makes me want to puke my guts out.”

Winona let her vent, then gently cleaned her friend's wounds with antiseptic and applied some ointment. After that, she went to the kitchen to make Rhea some oatmeal. Rhea was sprawled on the sofa, still furious, texting her colleagues in a group chat about how to make Zayden pay.

Suddenly, her phone rang. As she listened, her expression grew even darker.

Winona brought out a bowl of oatmeal. “What’s wrong?”

Rhea touched a painful bruise on her arm. “Yulen called my boss,” she said, her voice dripping with hatred. “He bailed that bastard Zayden out and is demanding that my colleagues and I apologize to Tallulah and Blythe. If we don’t, I’m suspended! On what grounds?”

Winona’s heart sank. “Don’t do anything rash,” she told Rhea. “Don’t ruin things with your boss over this. I’ll go talk to Yulen.”

Rhea clenched her jaw, but quickly composed herself. With a defiant shrug, she said, “Forget it. If I get suspended, I get suspended. I’ll just consider it a vacation. And don’t you go see Yulen. I know you finally broke free from him, so don’t get tangled up with him again because of me.”

But Winona couldn’t let Rhea suffer such an injustice. After leaving Rhea’s apartment, she went straight to the hospital. Tallulah always posted photos on Twitter whenever Yulen came to take care of her there, complete with the location tag, so finding her room was easy.

When Winona walked in, Tallulah was eating a peeled orange that Yulen had prepared for her. “Winona, what are you doing here?” Tallulah asked, feigning surprise.

Yulen didn’t even look at her, slowly wiping his hands with a handkerchief.

Yulen raised his hand to strike her, but it froze in mid-air. His eyes filled with disappointment.

Winona gave a cold laugh, turned her back on him, and walked away.

As he watched her walk away, a flicker of unease hit him. He started to go after her, but Tallulah’s hand clamped around his arm.

“Yulen, my stomach hurts. Please don’t go.”
