Tallulah lay weakly in her hospital bed, the aftermath of the surgery leaving her drained and hollow. She touched her flat stomach, an undeniable sense of emptiness washing over her.
But the moment she remembered Yulen promising to sue Winona for the loss of the baby, a cold satisfaction settled in her chest. It was worth it.
Just then, the door opened and Yulen walked in. Tallulah instantly morphed her expression into one of shattering grief, her eyes brimming with tears.
Yulen sighed, pulling up a chair and taking her hand. "Get some rest. Try not to dwell on what happened."
Tallulah was smart enough to know that dragging Winona's name through the mud right now would only backfire. Instead, she buried her face in his chest, sobbing violently as she poured out her agony over losing the child.
"Yulen... I just had a dream. I dreamed the baby was crying. Do you think he was in pain?"
Deep down, Yulen was a traditionalist. He had always envisioned a house full of children. Knowing that the baby was gone filled him with a bitter, simmering rage.
He wrapped his arms around her, kissing the top of her head. "Shh, it's okay. Focus on healing. We'll have another baby in the future."
Despite their constant, vicious arguments over the past few months, she was still his wife. The mother of his child. There would always be a place for her in his life.

That evening, Stefan came home and immediately checked on Winona. Hayes had already briefed him on the circus at the police station.
"Are you alright? Did anyone try to hurt you?"
Winona shook her head. "I'm fine. Honestly, I'm just in shock that Tallulah would go to such extremes. I didn't think she had it in her to sacrifice her own pregnancy just to get back at me."
Stefan took her hand, his thumb tracing her knuckles. "I had my people pull the security footage from the hotel entrance, but someone beat us to it. The Locke family got to it first."
Winona's expression tightened. Without that footage, proving her innocence was going to be an uphill battle.
Stefan gently squeezed her hand. "Don't worry. I remembered there are city traffic cameras across the street. I called in a favor with a friend at the precinct, and they're pulling the footage from that exact timeframe."
Winona's eyes lit up with a sudden realization. "We need to get our hands on Tallulah's prenatal records. She desperately wanted this second baby to secure her place in Yulen's life, regardless of how much it wrecked her health. She wouldn't just throw that away to frame me. There has to be a medical reason."
"I'm on it."
"I understand. I'm handling it."
The following morning, the equipment suppliers delivered their newly upgraded tech to the lab. Winona took the lead on the installation and invited the project manager and lead engineer out for lunch to smooth over the partnership.
As they were walking through the restaurant lobby, they ran straight into Sylvan Scully.
The supplier's project manager immediately stepped forward to greet him. Winona simply stood there, expressionless.
Sylvan, having already heard Giselle's twisted version of the staircase incident, sneered at her. "Ms. Jowett. Karma is a very real thing. You should be careful about the trail of destruction you leave behind. It will catch up to you."
Winona's brow furrowed slightly before it clicked. He was talking about Tallulah's miscarriage.
Since she hadn't done a damn thing wrong, she felt absolutely zero guilt. She met his condescending glare with eyes like flint.
"Mr. Scully, your judgment is truly staggering. You believe every ridiculous rumor you hear without a shred of proof. I actually fear for the future of the Scully Group. If your cognitive decline is this severe, you might want to start looking for a successor before you run the company into the ground."
