"No. I still want her back," Yulen muttered, staring into his glass. "But she seems to genuinely love him now. She's constantly flying between the Capital and Riverton just to see him."
Giselle took a sip of her drink, leaning in close. "Yulen, as long as there's no ring on her finger, you still have a shot. Think about it—if she's so desperately in love with him, why hasn't she just relocated to the Capital permanently? At the end of the day, she can't quite bring herself to leave you behind. She's just using Stefan to make you jealous."
Yulen's clouded mind latched onto the logic. "You're right. Why didn't I see that?"
Later, Giselle drove a heavily intoxicated Yulen back to the Locke Villa.
Tallulah Shipley hurried out when she heard the door. Ever since Yulen had iced her out, she had adopted a meek, subservient demeanor. She swallowed every insult her mother-in-law, Willow, threw at her, and silently endured the constant demands from Yulen's sisters.
On the rare occasions Yulen actually came home, she completely buried her former arrogance, walking on eggshells to cater to his every need. If he didn't want to sleep at home, she didn't dare complain.
She was desperate to save her marriage.
Seeing him stumble in late at night, smelling of alcohol and propped up by Giselle Reed, Tallulah forced herself to remain silent.
Giselle looked at Tallulah's pathetic, defeated posture and felt a wave of boredom. She had assumed that losing the baby would have turned Tallulah into a vicious attack dog aimed squarely at Winona. Instead, she had completely folded.
With an air of supreme condescension, Giselle handed him over. "Yulen was going through a rough patch tonight. It took me a long time to talk him down and convince him to come home. He's all yours. Try taking better care of him."
Tallulah gripped Yulen's arm, biting her lip so hard it turned white.
*Since when does my husband need 'talking down' by you?*
This shameless bitch! If she ever got the chance, she would absolutely destroy Giselle Reed.
Once Giselle left, Tallulah half-carried Yulen upstairs to their bedroom. She changed him into his pajamas and gently wiped his face with a warm towel.
Staring at her husband's sleeping face, a desperate resolve hardened in her chest. The doctors had warned her that her body wasn't ready for another pregnancy anytime soon, but she had to take the gamble.
If she could just give him a child, he would finally come back to her.
She leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
Yulen stirred, his eyes fluttering open. The moment his gaze focused on Tallulah, a look of visceral disgust flashed across his face. He shoved her away.
Tallulah fell hard against the floor, a sharp pain shooting up her spine.
"I'm not in the mood," Yulen spat, glaring at her gaunt, sickly appearance.
Tallulah caught the undeniable repulsion in his eyes. Her chest went hollow with ice. She sat paralyzed on the floor, staring blankly ahead.
She had manipulated her way into this family using her body. If she couldn't even appeal to him physically anymore, her title as "Mrs. Locke" was nothing but an empty shell.
"No."
"For Ms. Jowett?"
"No," Yulen replied smoothly, his eyes scanning a document. "Send them to Ms. Reed."
Giselle had been incredibly patient and understanding the night before. She was exactly the kind of confidante he needed right now. He owed her his gratitude.
When the elaborate arrangement arrived, Giselle was thrilled.
She called Yulen immediately. "Yulen, thank you so much! I wasn't expecting this at all."
Yulen's voice was warm. "You've been a great comfort to me lately. It's the least I could do. I'm having lunch with Mr. Scully today—care to join us?"
"I'd love to," Giselle replied cheerfully.
She had no romantic interest in Yulen, and she knew he was hung up on Winona. That made it easy to play the role of his perfect, platonic confidante.
As for whether Tallulah Shipley cared? That wasn't her problem.
