Simone asked, "What time are you coming home?"
Forrest replied that he was having dinner with his colleagues.
"I'll come pick you up," Simone texted back.
Ever since Forrest's arm had been injured, Simone had been incredibly protective of him. Whenever he had a work dinner, she insisted on picking him up.
Forrest initially wanted to tell her it wasn't necessary, but knowing she would worry all night, he replied: "I'll send you my location. Why don't you join us for dinner? Winona's team is here too."
"Sounds good," Simone replied. "I can treat you all to dinner."
Forrest had already experienced his girlfriend's penchant for picking up the check on multiple occasions. He smiled helplessly and texted back, "Alright."
Seeing him continuously texting with a faint smile playing on his lips, Karina felt a sour pang in her chest.
She couldn't help but ask, "Who are you texting?"
Previously, she had mistakenly thought Forrest liked Winona. Later, she realized they were genuinely just friends. She thought she still had a chance, but seeing that look on his face, she started to fear he might actually have a girlfriend.
Sensing her interest and not wanting to lead her on, Forrest answered openly, "My girlfriend. She's joining us for dinner soon."
Karina bit her lip. She wanted to see exactly what this girlfriend looked like.
Twenty minutes later, Simone arrived.
She wore a beautifully tailored sky-blue dress and carried an artsy, tasteful designer bag. With her long, straight black hair and porcelain skin, she gave off a deeply melancholic, artistic vibe.
