Looking at Winona’s cold expression, Eloise assumed she was just putting on an act. "A man like Tallulah's husband is exactly your type, isn't he?" she asked pointedly. "Too bad you're not as lucky as her. You'll never marry a man like that."
Winona shot back without hesitation, "You talk about marriage all the time. Sounds to me like you're the one who's desperate to get married."
Several male colleagues standing nearby snickered, covering their mouths.
Eloise was furious but had no comeback.

After dropping Tallulah off, Yulen prepared to head back to the Locke Villa.
Tallulah, unhappy, grabbed his hand. "Yulen, are you really not going to stay with me?"
Yulen was still angry with her, but they were legally married and had a child on the way; he couldn't just ignore her.
At heart, he was old-fashioned and believed a man’s life wasn’t complete without children. If Winona hadn't been unable to conceive, he never would have listened to his family and lied to her about being married. But lately, Winona was slipping from his grasp, and he needed a way to win her back.
He gently stroked Tallulah's head, his expression as gentle as ever. "I'm relieved you're staying at your family's home. I've been busy lately, but I promise I'll spend time with you as soon as I'm done."
An inexplicable knot formed in Tallulah's stomach. Even though she was in the R&D department now, she could still access his work schedule whenever she wanted. He wasn't busy. He was clearly planning to see Winona.
She grumbled a few more complaints, but Yulen wouldn't budge, so she finally had to let him go.
After leaving, Yulen called Winona. She had just gotten home and, seeing his name on the screen, felt absolutely no desire to talk. She let the phone ring until it stopped.
The next evening, Stefan had already booked a restaurant, saving Winona the trouble of deciding. When she arrived, he was already waiting. He stood up like a gentleman, pulled out her chair, and presented her with a bouquet of sunflowers.
Winona was surprised. She never imagined someone with his cool demeanor would give her flowers. But she refused to read too much into it. She couldn’t imagine a man like Stefan being interested in her—a divorced woman carrying another man’s child. He had far better options.
With no romantic intentions on either side, the dinner was pleasant and relaxed. Winona discovered that she and Stefan shared a favorite foreign painter, and they fell into an engaging conversation on the topic.
It reminded Winona of something she had read once—that sharing real interests with your spouse was what kept a marriage from going flat. Thinking back, her marriage to Yulen had been rather lackluster. In the beginning, he was probably drawn to her face and figure, so he had been patient. After they got married, he seemed to want a conventional wife—someone who would have his children and take care of the home. She had endured so much trying to conceive a child to please his mother, and while she harbored many complaints, Yulen was always too busy with work to offer any comfort. They had been “married,” but in so many ways they had never really known each other at all.
Now, away from Yulen, she was content with her new life. If only he and Tallulah would stop popping up in it.
As her thoughts drifted, a slender figure approached their table.
