Stefan's voice was icy. "Mom, there must be something wrong with your memory. Grandma said that when you first married into the family, she never made things difficult for you."
Margaret felt defensive and shot back, "But you're forgetting that your grandmother also set strict rules for me, and I never once disobeyed her."
Stefan pressed on, "That was only because you did something foolish, and Grandma gave you a mild punishment as a warning."
Margaret grew even more resentful.
"When it comes down to it, you're just biased toward Winona and your grandmother. You never consider my feelings."
Stefan found her logic incredibly amusing.
In the past, when she relentlessly favored Evander and the Shepherd family, she believed it was perfectly justified. But now, just because he was speaking up for Winona and his grandmother, his mother couldn't handle it.
He suddenly realized that standing here arguing with her was a complete waste of time.
Without another word, he stepped forward and continued walking into the memorial hall.
Seeing him just walk away like that, Margaret was so furious her chest heaved.
Stefan walked in and found his seat.
Just then, he noticed a woman sitting next to his Uncle Orion. It was Daisy Falconer.
Orion had already broken down crying once, and the relatives were all secretly marveling at his deep devotion to his late wife.
Daisy pulled out a tissue to gently wipe away his tears and handed him a bottle of water.
After taking a sip, Orion continued to weep silently at Renie's portrait.
As the funeral wrapped up, Stefan walked out of the hall. An eight-year-old boy came sprinting toward him and accidentally crashed right into his legs.
The bodyguards quickly stepped up to pull the child away.
Daisy hurried over, pulling the boy behind her as she apologized. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Goddard. My son didn't mean to run into you."
Stefan looked at her. "I didn't realize you were married, Ms. Falconer. How old is your child?"
Daisy offered a polite smile. "I'm not married. He's my son with my ex-boyfriend. His name is Lionel, and he's eight."
