When Eloise heard the news, she spent the rest of the day glaring at Winona. Winona, however, remained perfectly composed. Since joining the lab, she had cleaned up more than a few of Eloise's messes. If only Eloise could channel that energy into her research, but Winona knew it was pointless to even say it.
After work, as Winona was about to leave, someone shoved her hard from behind. She instinctively shielded her stomach and braced herself against the wall. She didn't fall, but she twisted her ankle, and a sharp, stabbing pain shot through her foot. Turning around, she saw Eloise looking at her with an innocent expression. "Oh, sorry about that. You're okay, right? I'm in a rush, gotta go."
The pain was too intense for Winona to even think of yelling at her. Leaning on the wall, she limped to the elevator and went downstairs to catch a cab to the hospital.
As if her luck couldn't get any worse, she ran into Tallulah and Yulen the moment she entered the emergency room. Tallulah was sobbing, her voice loud as she questioned him, "You didn't answer my calls tonight, and you were having dinner with your new secretary. What's that supposed to mean?"
Yulen offered a quiet explanation that Winona couldn't hear. Not wanting to be seen, she put on a mask and turned to register.
After seeing a doctor, getting X-rays, and picking up her prescription, she finally limped out of the hospital, only to run into Yulen and Tallulah again.
Tallulah stared at her, resentment written all over her face. But Winona didn’t even acknowledge her.
Yulen walked over to Winona. "What happened?" he asked with concern. "Are you not feeling well?"
"It's nothing, I just sprained my ankle," Winona replied calmly.
Yulen frowned. "You came alone? Why didn't you call me? I could have driven you."
Seeing her swollen foot, he said irritably, "Are you still staying at Helena's? You're in this condition and you still won't come home?" Without another word, he bent down to pick her up.
Yulen glanced at Tallulah, then back at Winona, clearly not ready to let her go. "Let's all go to dinner."
Winona almost laughed out loud. What was this? They were going to be all lovey-dovey and wanted her to sit there and watch? She was shoved into the back seat. Yulen drove, with Tallulah sitting beside her, shooting her venomous looks.
Winona simply closed her eyes and pretended to sleep. If she had known a trip to the hospital would lead to this, she would have rather stayed home in pain.
At the restaurant, Yulen sat between her and Tallulah. Winona felt deeply uncomfortable and just wanted to eat quickly and leave.
But, of course, things couldn't be that simple. Eloise and a friend were also dining there tonight. Seeing Winona and Tallulah, she came over to say hello. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the handsome and distinguished Yulen. If only she could have a boyfriend like that. But then she wondered, what was Winona doing here?
