Camille glances toward the kitchen, where Tallulah is busy, with a look of utter disgust. "Mom, Winona's paper won a major award. She's heading to the capital for the ceremony. She's going to be a huge name in pharmaceutical research. Any lab that has her is basically sitting on a goldmine. On top of that, she inherited Wynne Walden's shares. She's rich and incredibly talented. Our family really missed out on her."
Hearing this, Willow also feels a pang of regret.
If only she hadn't opposed Yulen being with Winona back then.
"Ugh, don't remind me. How was I supposed to know Winona was actually this capable? I thought Tallulah had something to offer, but she turned out to be totally useless and completely toxic!"
In the kitchen, Tallulah is chopping meat, her hands coated in grease.
Willow had suddenly demanded homemade tortellini from scratch.
Tallulah had barely taken a few bites of her own dinner before being ordered into the kitchen.
Hearing Willow and Camille's conversation outside, a wave of bitter fury washes over her.
That's not what Willow used to say.
Willow used to claim that a woman's ability to have children was far more important than her career.
Now, suddenly, careers matter more than babies, and she is desperate to have Winona replace her. Then what was all her suffering for? What was the point of breaking her back working like a maid for the Locke family?
She chops the meat harder, her eyes darkening with spite.
