Winona's expression was ice-cold. "Margaret, I know you despise me, and I have absolutely no intention of trying to win you over. Since we clearly can't stand the sight of each other, not seeing each other is the best solution. Please leave. I need to rest."
"Winona Jowett!"
Margaret glared at her, breathing heavily before snapping, "We need to talk."
Seeing that the woman was determined to force her way in, Winona took a step back.
With the door open and Ezra and Waldo standing guard right outside, she felt relatively safe.
If Margaret started spewing absolute garbage, she would simply have the bodyguards throw her out.
Besides, Winona doubted Margaret would try anything genuinely dangerous—no matter how much she hated Winona, she wouldn't risk harming her own grandchild.
Stepping into the living room, Margaret took in the cozy decor and the sight of a cat and a dog lounging on the sofa. She instantly frowned.
Stefan actually lived here?
Didn't he despise having animals in the house?
She gave Winona a complicated look before her face twisted in pure disdain. "Even if you are pregnant, you shouldn't let yourself go completely. Look at the size of you. You've completely lost your figure. It's an absolute eyesore."
Winona ignored her entirely, pouring herself a glass of water and taking a slow sip.
Being completely disregarded only made Margaret's blood boil hotter.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to remember why she had come.
"I am here to negotiate an arrangement."
Winona didn't even bat an eyelash. She continued to treat the older woman like thin air.
Margaret pressed on. "I will never accept you into the Goddard family. But since you are having the baby, I won't ignore my grandchild. The family will pay child support. In exchange, you must promise never to bring the child to the Capital City to cause a scene. Furthermore, you cannot let Stefan fly to Riverton every single day. He is allowed to visit once a week; the rest of his time must be spent in the Capital. You claimed you didn't care about a title or marrying into the family, didn't you? This is what you wanted. Don't go back on your word now."
Winona just stared at her quietly, not offering a single word in response.
