Yulen emerged from the master bathroom after a shower and walked over to the vanity to blow-dry his hair when he accidentally knocked over Winona’s handbag. It fell to the floor, its contents spilling out across the carpet.
He bent down to pick everything up, but his eyes suddenly landed on an exquisite, high-end men's watch. Yulen knew his timepieces, and he could tell at a glance that this one was a collector's item, available only to the most discerning and well-connected clientele. There was no way Winona could have acquired it on her own.
It had to belong to another man.
His brow furrowed as an unfamiliar rage surged within him. No wonder she had been acting differently lately—cold, detached, and pushing back on everything he said. She must have another man in her life.
Just as Winona walked back into the bedroom after finishing her juice, she was met with the sight of Yulen’s furious face. She saw the watch in his hand and immediately lunged for it.
Yulen clenched his fist around the watch. "Whose is this?" he demanded.
"It's none of your business," Winona said coldly.
"Winona, don’t push me. If you think you can mess with me and get away with it, you’re wrong. If you betray me, you’ll regret it."
He grabbed her wrist, his grip so tight it felt like her bones might shatter.
Winona’s face went pale with pain. She already felt sick from her morning sickness, and this was only making it worse. She gritted her teeth. "Let go. I barely know the owner of that watch, and I was going to return it to him anyway."
Yulen snorted and released her, his voice dropping to an icy tone. "Remember your place."
He tossed the watch onto the table, any desire for intimacy with her completely extinguished.
Winona rubbed her wrist, a faint, bitter smile playing on her lips as she looked at his enraged expression.
Her place? What right did he have to say that to her? She was just a fake Mrs. Locke. Was she supposed to remain faithful to him?
"You're making a big deal out of a watch," she couldn't help but say, "but what about you and Tallulah? You two flirt right under my nose. Did you really think I couldn't see it?"
A flicker of guilt crossed Yulen's face, but he quickly became defensive. "There is nothing going on between me and Tallulah. If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do."
Winona sneered. "Really? And you think I'd believe that?"
"Winona, I hope for your sake you're truly feeling unwell. Otherwise, I will kill you."
She didn't answer. Her stomach was churning violently, and she felt like she was going to be sick but couldn't.
Humiliated, Yulen stormed out of the bedroom.
The two of them stopped speaking after that. If he wasn't talking, Winona certainly wasn't going to start. If it weren't for Helena, she wouldn't want to spend another minute in this house.
That evening, Yulen went out for a business dinner.
His lawyer called him. "Mr. Locke, I'm calling to report on the progress of the case you entrusted to me."
"Go on," Yulen said flatly.
"Both Helena Jowett and Faye Winslow were injured. If we can prove Faye initiated the attack, Helena can claim self-defense. However, the medical report is not in Helena's favor because Faye's injuries are more severe. Helena could be charged with using excessive force."
