Snatching the medical file from the doctor's hands, Yulen's fingers violently shook as he flipped it open.
The moment his eyes locked onto the termination of pregnancy record, his vision blurred with red.
"She had a miscarriage... why? How did this happen?" he demanded, his voice cracking.
The doctor gave him a deeply unimpressed look. "It was a hard-fought pregnancy, which is why I strongly advised her to keep it. She followed every protocol perfectly, but an accident happened, and she lost the baby. It was her friend who rushed her in. You're the husband, and you're just finding this out now? Unbelievable."
The doctor's judgmental glare burned into him, but Yulen couldn't look away from the papers.
He read the report over and over, desperately praying it was a hallucination. He had wanted a child with Winona more than anything in the world. He had been so incredibly close to having the family he always dreamed of, and he had slaughtered it with his own hands.
A sickening wave of self-hatred crashed over him. If he had just paid a fraction of attention to his wife, he would have noticed the signs.
Noticing his boss turning completely ashen, the assistant stepped forward. "Mr. Locke? Are you alright?"
The pain radiating through Yulen's chest was unbearable. He doubled over, a violent cough wracking his body until the sharp, metallic taste of blood coated his tongue. The sheer devastation was taking a brutal physical toll.
"Mr. Locke!" the assistant shouted in horror.
Yulen didn't go back to his new residence that night. Instead, he drove to the old house he had shared with Winona.
He hadn't stepped foot in the place in months. Tallulah had systematically erased every single trace of Winona's existence from the rooms.
