By the time Serena had packed up her few belongings and stepped out into the hall, Jordan was gone.

He's a busy man. He must have had to rush off, Serena thought to herself.

Honestly, it was for the best. She breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she would have had no idea what to say to him anyway.

Serena stepped out of the hospital's main entrance and was just about to hail a passing cab when a sleek, black Maybach glided smoothly to a stop right in front of her.

The tinted window rolled down, revealing Jordan's sharp, uncompromising features.

"Get in."

Jordan turned his head and commanded her softly.

Serena was thoroughly caught off guard.

"Jordan?"

"I thought you had already left."

Jordan didn't offer an explanation.

"I'm heading back to the Sinclair Enterprises tower. The Lindon Estate is on the way. I'll drop you off."

The estate and the corporate headquarters were indeed in the same direction. It was a logical carpool.

But Serena really didn't want to get into his car. The enclosed, intimate space with a man like him would be horribly awkward.

"Please don't trouble yourself. I can easily grab a cab," she politely declined.

Jordan made no move to drive away. Instead, he locked eyes with her. "Are you afraid of me?"

Serena instinctively shook her head.

"No."

"Then get in," Jordan replied, his tone leaving absolutely no room for debate.

He pressed the button to unlock the doors.

With her excuses depleted, Serena had no choice but to brace herself and climb into the passenger seat.
