The lights in the hospital emergency room were blindingly white. Gian helped Danielle to a bench. Her face was paler than the wall, and wisps of hair at her forehead were plastered to her skin, damp with a cold sweat.
In the car just moments ago, Danielle had suddenly been struck by unbearable abdominal pain, doubling over in the back seat and breaking out in a cold sweat. Gian hadn’t dared to delay, running every red light to get her to the hospital.
“Doctor, she’s pregnant,” Gian told the on-duty physician, grabbing his arm. “We were already planning on a termination, and now she’s having sudden abdominal pain. Please, you have to help her.”
The doctor frowned and instructed Danielle to lie on the examination bed. After a brief check, he returned with a lab report, his tone grave. “Early-pregnancy abdominal pain, combined with your history of severe morning sickness, means your body is already weak. The risks for a termination are higher than usual right now.”
He paused, looking at Danielle. “Are you certain you don’t want this child? If you want to keep it, we can immediately arrange treatment to stabilize the pregnancy.”
Lying on the bed, Danielle’s gaze was empty as she stared at the fluorescent lights on the ceiling. The tubes emitted a low hum, like a swarm of insects crawling in her ears.
After a few seconds of silence, she answered, her voice as raspy as sandpaper, “I’m sure. I don’t want it.”
The words were spoken softly, yet they landed on her heart with the weight of a thousand pounds. Since discovering the pregnancy, she had agonized over the decision countless nights.
If she kept the child, she would have to face the pressure of raising two children alone, endure the gossip of others, and worry about the day her child would ask about their father.
But when it came to truly giving it up, the moment she laid a hand on her stomach, an inexplicable connection made her chest tighten.
The doctor didn’t press further and turned to write a prescription. “Take this pill first. We’ll observe you for half an hour. If there are no issues, we’ll schedule the procedure for tomorrow.”
Gian returned with the medication and a glass of warm water. He sat by the bed and held the glass out to her. “Take this. The doctor said it will help with the pain.”
Danielle took the glass, her other hand instinctively resting on her lower abdomen.

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
