26 Runaway Patient Of The Year
The doctor gave her a serious look. “Your condition seems a bit severe; we need to check whether there’s any issue with your stomach.”
Marie froze.
The doctor continued, “What do you think?”
Pinned
Marie stayed silent. What could I possibly think? She never wanted to go through that kind of ordeal again. When she didn’t answer, the doctor turned toward Derrick.
Derrick glanced at Marie, then made the call. “Order the test.”
“Huh? You-” Marie immediately protested.
Who was the one who’d said on the way here that my opinion would be respected? She knew it–coming to the hospital was never simple with him!
Derrick looked at her fuming little face. “Come on, it’s not like that; your condition is serious.”
Marie didn’t want to hear another word. She turned her head away, sulking.
She looked utterly pitiful.
“You can’t even keep water down anymore,” Derrick said gently. “Be good.”
Yeah, last time I might’ve gone too far, he thought, but she’s been getting worse day by day. If we don’t run proper tests, this could turn dangerous. When Marie still wouldn’t answer, Derrick gave the doctor a look, signaling him to hurry and write the order.
The doctor finally handed the form to Derrick. “You can pay on this floor; the endoscopy room’s on the second.”
“Thank you, doctor,” Derrick said with a nod.
Then he took Marie’s hand. “Come on, let’s get the tests done first.”
The moment she heard the word tests, Marie’s legs practically gave out. Derrick had no choice but to lead her straight to the second–floor exam room.
“Wait here,” he told her. “I’ll have someone handle the payment.”
His men hadn’t followed them all the way inside earlier, so Derrick stood at the door and mad a quick call. Within minutes, one of his people showed up, took the slip, and went to pay.

But barely three minutes later–when Derrick turned back–Marie, who had been sitting quietly in the waiting area, was gone.
He went silent. This girl… she’s going to give me a headache.
He pulled out his phone and called her. Thankfully, she still picked up.
That little huff came through the speaker loud and clear.
Finished
“Listen,” Derrick said patiently, “you really need to do the test. What if it’s something serious? The sooner we find out, the sooner you’ll recover. Be good, okay?”
“I already left!”
Derrick was speechless.
He twitched his lips. Left? More like ran.Someone please explain to him–how was it that fearless, stubborn Marie, who never backed down from anything, would bolt at the mere mention of a gastroscopy?
He took a deep breath. “Marie…”
“I’m not doing it! That thing’s a nightmare. You wanna do it? Go ahead and do it yourself!”
Derrick said nothing.
Her words jogged his memory. Back in middle school, she’d been hospitalized for a few days because of stomach trouble. She must have developed trauma from that gastroscopy.
Still—“It’s not like back then,” he said. “They can give you anesthesia now; you won’t even feel it.”
“I don’t care! I’m not doing it! If you’re so eager, do it yourself!”
“I’m not the one with stomach problems, I’m saying you-” Beep, beep, beep.
Before he could finish, Marie hung up on him.
Derrick was stunned. Great. First, she’d refused home visits from doctors; now she was fleeing hospital tests.
This was giving him a migraine.
His phone buzzed again–it was Abraham.
Derrick answered. “What is it?”
Abraham’s voice came through the line. “Victor’s side is entering a critical phase. Watch out for

a counterattack from the Ashen Pact.”

The Ashen Pact was like a cornered dog now–dangerous when desperate.

Derrick snorted. “Right now, every major faction’s closing in on them. Even if they’re rabid, there’s no way they can bite back.”
He really didn’t take the Ashen Pact seriously anymore.
The only thing that mattered to him was, “We agreed–everything I take from the Ashen Pact stays mine. Don’t even think about claiming it later.”
If anyone tried to dispute that, Derrick wasn’t going to stand for it.
Abraham said, “Dan got in touch with the Moses family this morning.”
Derrick went quiet. Yalvoria–the Moses family?
So Dan still had some tricks up his sleeve; to be able to connect with that family at a time like this was no small feat.
“How’d he pull that off?” Derrick asked.
“Not sure. Had breakfast with the Moses heiress this morning.”
Derrick froze. Breakfast? With the Moses heiress?
Wait a second. “Isn’t his fiancée the Mint family’s daughter–Ella?”
So he’s having breakfast with the Moses heiress… what’s that supposed to mean? Derrick wondered.
Abraham’s tone was calm. “The Morris family’s always been pragmatic. Do you really think the Mint family can still offer them anything valuable?”
“If they want benefits, wouldn’t you be the better choice, brother–in–law?”
At that, Derrick couldn’t help but sneer. He’d always looked down on Dan.
Abraham said quietly, “Back then, he didn’t really know who Marie was.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wrong Girl and the Wronged Girl (Stella and Ethan)
Ch 489 Doesn’t this prove that Dan doesn’t actually have amnesia? Why would he go to the island with a strange woman and why would he steal from Derrick? He doesn’t know them....
Ch 488 I feel like this is going to be what Stella stole in his study in Pagenda or wherever his estate was....
Ch 485 I thought it was going to be the Reed family mine that she robbed, thus taking the Keenes product and leaving them in that situation....
Ch 483 o then, how did the Reeds fine her? How did they not know where she was from?...
Ch 477 Definitely hidden pedo in here, referring to tiny women as little girls in every way possible....
Ch 468 How could Stella inherit her adopted father’s weak stomach constitution?...
Ch 468 Abraham and Marie’s mother has been called Evelyn, Diane and Loretta.. which is it? Evelyn has been the most used....
Ch 465 She still doesn’t know the mistress is Lillian’s aunt?...
Ch 464 Why didn’t she kick her out herself be for she went to attack the mistress…...
Ch 463 This is stupid now. I understand being scared in his presence enough to not think straight, but she’s a lone more often than not and has plenty of time to think things through, especially if she has time to get gossip from Rivermount and report to Stella....
