Chapter 841 Don’t Touch My Baby!

Derrick snapped, “Dan called me himself; you think I’d make that up? Step on it!”

Sebastian stayed silent. For something this humiliating, the guy still had the nerve to call and confess- unbelievable.

They arrived at the hospital soon after.

When Derrick found Marie, the doctor was talking to her. “You’re pregnant now; you must keep your emotions under control.”

“Where’s Dan? Is he dead yet?”

The doctor fell silent.

So did Derrick and Sebastian, who were standing just outside the door.

Especially Sebastian–his expression said it all. What a beautiful display of mental stability.

She’d beaten Dan up herself, and still had enough energy to yell like that.

And Derrick, he’d been so terrified Dan might’ve hurt her that he’d rushed over without even changing his clothes.

The doctor sighed, clearly exasperated. “Ms. Marie, I need to remind you that your pregnancy is still unstable. You can’t let yourself get this worked up.”

“Unstable’s perfect–makes it easier to get rid of it!”

The doctor froze.

The instant those words fell, Derrick strode into the room without hesitation.

The doctor opened his mouth to scold her again, but Sebastian grabbed his arm and said quickly, “Doctor, we’re family. If you have anything to say, please, this way.”

The doctor adjusted his black–framed glasses with an irritated push. “A pregnant woman shouldn’t get so emotional; what a temper.”

“Yes, yes, of course. This way, please.”

Sebastian guided him politely out of the room.

That left only Derrick and Marie, Marie turned her head away, refusing to look at him.

Derrick dragged a chair over and sat by her bed. “You-”

What am I even supposed to say? He had no idea anymore.

Dan had called him earlier, furious, claiming Derrick hadn’t explained things clearly to Marie. Hadn’t explained clearly? I’d been as straightforward as it got! And she still didn’t get it. What more could I do?

Marie was fuming. “Schedule the procedure!”

Derrick winced.

Hearing that made his head pound even harder.

“Don’t do this. The baby can hear you; it’ll be sad.”

She always wanted to end the pregnancy at the slightest trigger.

That was exactly what Derrick had been afraid of since Abraham’s call yesterday.

If she really believed this child was Dan’s, then hitting Dan would be the least of their problems. The bigger issue was that she might never want to keep the baby at all.

And sure enough, he’d been right.

“Sad?” Marie scoffed. “It shouldn’t have been born in the first place.”

She refused to have anything to do with that scumbag Dan,

If the baby was his, then Marie would never keep it–no matter what anyone said.

“The baby’s mine,” Derrick said firmly.

“Derrick!”

Her tone sharpened.

The look she gave him was filled with guilt–so much that it made his chest ache.

Meeting her eyes, Derrick’s voice softened. “Why can’t I make you understand?”

“Because you’re either brainless or deaf!”

Derrick nearly groaned aloud. Wasn’t he explaining? Hadn’t he explained a thousand times already?

But Marie just wouldn’t believe him.

“Why don’t you believe the baby’s mine?” he said, nearly losing it.

And he wasn’t the only one losing it–Dan probably was too.

Derrick felt just as crazy. Marie had simply handed his baby over to another man without a thought; how could he not be angry?

The worst part was that he couldn’t even yell at her. That, more than anything, tore him up inside.

“Believe you?” Marie’s voice dripped with disbelief. “You think I’m that stupid?”

“Wait, no, that’s not what 1-”

“Derrick, stop. It’s just an abortion; it won’t hurt that much.”

Derrick fell silent.

That one cut deep.

“What do you mean, just an abortion? How can you say it like it’s nothing? I’m telling you, you’d better not even think about it. You’re having this baby!”

“You-”

“The baby’s mine!”

He repeated it over and over, desperate for her to believe him.

Marie didn’t answer. She just looked at him quietly.

“What’s with that look?” Derrick asked.

That strange, unreadable look–was she still not convinced?

“Nothing,” Marie said. “I want some orange juice.”

“I’ll have Sebastian get it.”

‘I also want kiwi juice.”

“Fine; both.”

At this point, whatever Marie wanted, she got. Derrick told Sebastian to handle everything.

As Sebastian passed Dan’s room, though, he froze.

From inside came Dan’s howls of agony-

“Easy! Easy! Hey!”

The screams were so pitiful that Sebastian instinctively stopped and peeked through the glass.
