Chapter 842 Guess Who’s Still Bleeding

When Sebastian saw the tourniquets wrapped around Dan’s waist and head, he nearly burst out laughing.
Andy had been by Dan’s side the whole time; seeing him get beaten up yesterday and again today, he couldn’t help but say, “If you and Marie don’t clear up this misunderstanding soon, you’re basically living on borrowed time!”
The dangerous. Dan grew even angrier. “You think I don’t want to clear it up? I’ve told her everything, but she won’t believe a damn word!”
Andy sighed. “That’s because you’ve already lost all credibility with her. Completely.”
Dan went quiet.
From outside the door, Sebastian snorted. “Exactly.”
He wasn’t wrong–Dan’s credibility had hit rock bottom. The man had even faked his own death once; how was Marie supposed to believe anything he said now?
Still, Sebastian couldn’t help but admit that Marie was fierce–really fierce. Not the kind of woman anyone should mess with unless they had a death wish.
Eventually, Sebastian returned with orange juice and kiwi juice for Marie; he even grabbed her breakfast. She’d left the house so early, she probably hadn’t eaten a thing.
When Sebastian quietly mentioned to Derrick just how miserably Dan had been beaten, Derrick instinctively glanced at Marie, who was calmly eating her breakfast.
She’s really hungry. He thought.
After all, she’d spent the entire morning tracking Dan down and even beating him up. The same woman who’d been nauseous for days was now eating just fine, no trace of discomfort on her face.
Derrick sighed. “What can I do? I tell her the truth, and she still doesn’t believe me.”
Sebastian fell silent.
If Dan had heard that, he’d probably cough up blood on the spot.
Honestly, after that night, Dan had already coughed up plenty.
It didn’t matter what he said–Marie didn’t believe him.
It didn’t matter what Derrick said–Marie didn’t believe him either.
At this point, none of them knew how to get through to her.
Tessa, meanwhile, had completely stopped talking to Lewis.
Then she got a call. Amid all the chaos, the sound of her phone startled her.

“Mom?”
The second she heard that voice, tears sprang to her eyes. “Mom, where are you?”

“Crying again? You’re hopeless,” came Diana’s indulgent scolding. Despite everything, her tone was still firm, full of her usual energy and fire.
Even after all this time, she was still the same strong, fearless woman Tessa had always admired.
Sniffling, Tessa said in a small voice, “I couldn’t find you, Mom. I was scared.”
That was the truth.
She’d been terrified that something might’ve happened to Diana.
For as long as she could remember, it had always been just the two of them. Her mother had been constantly busy, always rushing from one thing to another. Most of Tessa’s childhood had been spent with a nanny, but still–Diana was her whole world, her only family.
Hearing her daughter’s shaky voice, Diana’s tone turned stern. “Stop crying. You’re not a kid anymore.”
“I was just worried about you.”
“Worried? You think those scumbags could actually take me down?”
Her voice was sharp and confident as ever.
Tessa went quiet. Eat you alive?
“They looked terrifying,” she mumbled. “Of course I was worried they’d hurt you.”
“Relax. I’m fine. Those scumbags can’t touch me even if they try. They should take a good look at themselves before thinking they can take me on!”
Tessa blinked. Wow… she’s cursing people again; she must really be fine.
She sniffled softly. “Then where are you, Mom? Why are you only calling now?”
“You’re still in Redwood?”
“Yeah!”
“Good. Don’t go to Black Mountain. And don’t you dare leave with that old scumbag Dale. He’s not your father,”
“I already didn’t!”
When it came to loyalty, Tessa’s stance couldn’t have been clearer.
Her mother had raised her alone, gone through so much–there was no way she’d recognize anyone else
as her dad.
“He’s not your father,” Diana repeated firmly. “Don’t go around claiming he is.”

“Listen carefully. If he comes for you, don’t go with him. He’s not your dad. Got it?”
“Got it. But then who is my dad-”
“Bye.”
Click.
Tessa stared at the phone, speechless.
Before she could even ask, Diana had hung up. When Tessa tried calling back, the line was already disconnected.
Her lips twitched. She called just to tell me not to go with Dale? But… is she really okay? And what did she mean by saying Dale wasn’t her father? Was that actually true?
She’d never felt any real connection to that man anyway. Could it be, she really wasn’t Dale’s daughter? Then who was her father?
Her mind went blank.
Just then, her phone buzzed again.
“Hello?” she answered numbly.
