Chapter 843 Ethan Still Can’t Let Go
“It’s me–Ethan.”
The cold, clipped voice on the other end made Tessa pause. “You?”
Ethan. She hadn’t heard from him in forever. Ever since coming to Redwood, she’d had no reason to keep in touch with him anyway.
“So, why are you calling me?”
“Is Stella with you?”
Ethan’s question finally snapped her fully awake. Only then did she hear what lay beneath his cold tone–a thread of weariness, almost defeat.
Tessa went silent.
Defeat? Then his life lately must have been a mess.
He’d even gone to Falvaria looking for Stella; how could Mr. Abraham have tolerated that? Of course he’d have found ways to keep Ethan tied up.
And the Keene family had been making headlines too. Judson’s illegitimate son had returned, throwing what had once been a harmonious household into chaos.
Tessa drew in a steadying breath. “She’s not with me. What, you still haven’t let go of her?”
“I’m warning you, Stella’s got nothing to do with you anymore. She and Mr. Abraham already have a marriage certificate, and she’s pregnant with their third child. It’s over; stop deluding yourself.”
Wanting to cut off any lingering obsession, Tessa laid out Stella’s situation plainly. She hoped Ethan would understand–he and Stella were done.
“Give her a message for me,” Ethan said.
“I won’t.”
Why should she? She’d just told him to move on.
Ethan’s voice dropped lower. “The Tom family has a daughter named Kelly–but Kelly isn’t actually the Tom family’s daughter.”
“What do you mean?”
Tessa thought. The Tom family? That was Derrick’s family–Marie’s husband. What on earth was Ethan trying to get at, asking me to pass this on to Stella?
“Mrs. Tom–Mona–her real daughter isn’t Kelly. It’s a woman named Reese.”
“Reese? Wait, what?”

“Reese and Abraham were once rumored together,” Ethan continued. “Back then, Kelly’s attacks on Stella were just a smokescreen. Tell her to be careful of the Tom family.”
Tessa said nothing. This sounds… ridiculously complicated.
“You’re saying the Tom family still has designs on Stella? They’d dare?”
“Not the Tom family,” Ethan corrected. “Mona. Mrs. Tom herself.”
“Hold on. My head’s spinning.”
“Reese has been visiting cosmetic surgery clinics a lot lately,” Ethan went on.
Tessa blinked, stunned. Cosmetic… clinics?
“And she’s been copying Stella,” Ethan said, “her tastes, her style–everything.”
At that, Tessa’s chaotic thoughts clicked into place.
Cosmetic procedures. Imitating Stella.
So the Tom family’s current calm might just be a façade; there could be a plot aimed straight at Stella. No way… Hadn’t they learned their lesson the last time?
“They’re playing a very big game,” Ethan said. “If they succeed, you know what the consequences will be.”
If they succeeded, Reese would step into Stella’s place beside Abraham.
And Stella…
Tessa’s heart gave a sharp jolt.
“Wait–how do you know all this? You’re not plotting something yourself, are you?”
Her stomach twisted. Ethan had once been obsessed with Stella even after Lillian’s true face had been revealed. Who knew if he was being sincere now–or scheming?
“How I know isn’t important,” Ethan said evenly. “What matters is that you tell Stella. Her world isn’t as calm as it looks.”
Tessa stayed quiet.
“Why don’t you call Stella yourself?” she asked finally, “Tell her directly.”
“She blocked me a long time ago.”
Tessa exhaled softly.
Of course. Stella had always been decisive about cutting ties. Whatever existed between them had been finished for good, and she’d blocked him completely.
After hanging up with Ethan, Tessa hesitated only a few seconds before dialing Stella’s number.

The line picked up quickly. “Tess.”
“Stella, Ethan just called me. He said Mona’s daughter–isn’t Kelly, but a woman named Reese.”
Reese. The name wasn’t unfamiliar; Tessa had heard Stella mention it before.
“I already have some information about that,” Stella said calmly.
“What? You-”
“Don’t worry about me,” Stella cut her off. “Focus on your own business. I know what I’m doing.”
Tessa fell silent. So fast?
She and Ethan had thought Stella was in the dark, but she’d already caught wind of this secret?
Apparently, the only clueless one had been Tessa herself.
If Stella already knew, then she surely had a plan.
“You’re saying Ethan called you?” Stella asked.

“Yeah! When he told me all this, I honestly wondered if he had some scheme of his own,” Tessa admitted.
