This wasn’t just a simple plan–it was a calculated move in a much larger game. They were waiting for the perfect chance to blur the truth and replace Stella right in front of Abraham.
Melissa glanced at Stella’s belly. “I’d say their plan’s closing move is timed for when you give birth.”
A woman was at her weakest during childbirth.
And Stella was carrying triplets–no one could possibly take her place now.
Once she gave birth, that would be Reese’s best chance to strike.
Stella arched a brow and shot Melissa a sideways look. “Thanks.”
Melissa huffed. “Thanks for what? Just put in a good word for me with Mrs. Luca, will you? I really don’t want to go home and get scolded–or worse.”
Just thinking about that pregnancy test made her want to cry.
Melissa truly hadn’t done anything, yet she’d been yelled at for days over that ridiculous misunderstanding.
If not for that, she wouldn’t have cared this much about Reese’s plastic surgery.
“Stella…”
Stella turned toward her, and Melissa quickly added, “Oh, come on, it’s not like I was that obsessed with Abraham! You know how many handsome men I’ve seen over the years!”
“It’s just that, back then, the strongest man in all of Falvaria was Abraham! I just thought…”
“You wanted to marry into the family?”
Melissa nodded eagerly. “Exactly! And it’s not like I ever hurt you, right? Don’t forget–I really did treat you like a sister.”
And she wasn’t lying about that.
Melissa had a big heart and no filter; she was straightforward and genuine.
Since Abraham had always treated Stella like a little sister, Melissa had naturally done the same.
“Anyway, I don’t think that way anymore; and that disgusting thing–whatever it was–had nothing to do with me.”

“I know,” Stella replied softly.
“Then you’ll…”
“I’ll call your mother,” Stella said.

Melissa’s face brightened. “You’ve got to tell her nicely, okay? I really can’t take another round
of that.”
Between her mother and grandmother, Melissa had practically been scolded into existential
crisis.
She’d never been yelled at so much in her life–and she had no desire to experience it again.
After Melissa left, Stella called for Clint. “Get the Bogden family on the phone. Tell them to stop yelling at Melissa.”
Clint nodded. “Understood.”
“And also…”
The moment Stella said those words, her lashes lifted; her eyes turned to ice.
Reese.
She was actually Mona’s daughter.
Even though the evidence Melissa brought today was solid, Stella wasn’t about to accept it blindly.
She handed the matter over to Clint, instructing him to have people investigate quietly.
When he heard that, Clint was stunned.
“You mean… Mrs. Tom?” He faltered, wide–eyed. “No–that can’t be…” He was completely
shaken.
Stella’s expression hardened. “Some of these old families really are rotten to the core.”
Clint fell silent.
“Dig into it,” Stella ordered. “Find out whether Reese and Mona are truly mother and daughter -and how far their scheme has gone.”
Melissa was right; this was a long game.

And Stella agreed.
“Make sure no one catches wind of it.”
“Yes, madam.”

Stella lifted her glass and took a sip of water. For now, Mona and Reese couldn’t suspect a thing.
When Abraham returned, he found Stella still talking to Clint.
He took off his coat, handed it to Clint, and then sat down, pulling Stella into his arms.
“What are you doing…” she murmured, though there was no real protest in her voice.
She was used to this–Abraham always wanted to hold her, no matter where they were. She wasn’t afraid anymore; she knew he’d never let her fall.
His fingers pressed lightly against her waist as he looked down at her slightly rounded belly, a tender smile curving his lips.
“What’s this about keeping secrets? I heard that as soon as I walked in–you sounded awfully mysterious.”
At that, Stella shot Clint a glance.
He caught the cue instantly, nodded, and left with Abraham’s coat.
When only the two of them remained, Stella slipped her arms around Abraham’s neck, resting her head against his shoulder.
“Stella?” he murmured, rubbing her slender back when she stayed quiet.
“Reese,” she finally said, “have you ever been with her?”
Abraham blinked. “What?”
The moment she mentioned Reese, he pushed her back slightly and tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his eyes.
“Who told you that?” he asked, voice low.
Stella froze.
“Have I ever been with Reese? You should know the answer to that. Besides, she was your classmate–I barely even spoke to her.”
Right.

Back in college, Reese and Stella had been close enough friends, but Reese had hardly ever been alone with Abraham.
