The Wrong Girl and the Wronged Girl (Stella and Ethan) novel Chapter 878

Back then, when Sebastian and Drax had dragged Derrick away, it had gone so smoothly that even he had been surprised. If it had been left up to Derrick’s own stubborn streak, he’d never have run; no one could’ve made him leave.

“I swear, I could kill you,” Marie snapped.

“Fine, fine—after the baby’s here, you can murder me all you want,” Derrick said with a tired laugh.

At this point, no matter what she said, he tried his best to appease her.

Still, the way he said “do whatever you want” sounded… off.

Marie’s anger flared. She grabbed his waist and pinched hard, twisting viciously.

“Ugh…” Derrick hissed; it actually hurt.

Just then, Sebastian called. Derrick caught Marie’s slender wrist.

“Be good,” he said. “I have to take a call.”

He pried her hand off. “We’ll settle this behind closed doors when we get home. There are people around now, okay?”

He kept coaxing her.

Up front, the driver had already tuned them out. No one in their right mind would listen too closely to these two. He’d raised the divider ages ago.

Marie was practically fuming.

It was Sebastian on the line. Derrick answered curtly. “What do you want?”

This brat.

Look at the mess he’d caused; now Derrick couldn’t even explain himself to his wife.

Marie was itching to tear into Derrick; Derrick, meanwhile, wanted nothing more than to tear into Sebastian.

Sebastian didn’t even notice the edge in Derrick’s voice. “Bro, you’ve gotta come back and get me,” he said urgently.

“Huh?” Derrick frowned.

“My car can’t get in. The private airport doesn’t have any cars going out either. Come back, quick!”

The same Sebastian who’d refused to get in the car earlier was suddenly desperate.

Like hell was he walking twenty miles on foot.

“Why can’t your car get in?” Derrick asked.

“I don’t know—did Marie do this on purpose? Ask her if she’s messing with me,” Sebastian blurted, his voice rising.

When Derrick heard that, he just thought, God, could he be any dumber?

Was that something you could just ask out loud?

“If your sister-in-law is doing this to you on purpose, then take it. You deserve it,” Derrick said flatly.

On the other end, Sebastian was speechless.

Seriously?

He’d only gotten mixed up with Marie because of Derrick—and now Derrick was talking like this?

“Anyway, that’s it. Bye,” Derrick said.

This had to be a joke. Dozens of miles, and I was just supposed to… take it?

If I’d known, I wouldn’t have dragged his ungrateful butt out. I’d have let Marie beat him to death.

No way. Did someone just hear that?

“What do you mean what? If I don’t get this sorted out with you two today, is that crazy woman gonna keep coming after me?”

Dan was in a car himself, wincing as he spoke; every word tugged painfully at the wounds on his face. That damned woman. What was going on in her head?

She didn’t listen to a single word like a normal human being.

He’d been beaten in Redwood.

As far as Dan was concerned, no matter what, this time things had to be straightened out.

If not, he’d never have a peaceful day again.

“She won’t hit you anymore,” Derrick said.

Dan went still. That tone—so certain?

“What’s that supposed to mean? Why should I believe you?”

Just because Derrick said so didn’t make it true. Marie lost control like no ordinary person.

Yet here Derrick was, swearing she wouldn’t touch him again.

So what had changed?

“She believes the child is mine now,” Derrick said quietly.

As he spoke, he instinctively reached for Marie’s hand beside him.

Marie rolled her eyes and tried to pull away, but Derrick’s grip only tightened; he refused to let her go.
