"Grandpa, what's gotten into you? Did Penelope say something to you?"
"She did say a few things, but I don't know if I should believe them." Hans took a deep breath. "We don't air our dirty laundry in public. Come home with me later. We need to talk."
With that, Hans turned and walked away.
Watching Hans just leave like that, Yvonne stomped her foot in frustration.
So close. She had been so close to succeeding.
That Penelope! Why did she ruin everything, every single time? Her mother was right; they should never have let her live. But what on earth did Penelope say to Hans to make him change his mind at the last minute?
After informing the board room that the meeting was canceled, Yvonne found an empty corner and frantically called Judy.
When Judy heard the news, she was furious and cursed Penelope's name.
"That bitch! I won't let her get away with it this time!"
"Mom, Grandpa wants me to go home with him. He said he has something to ask me. The look on his face was strange... do you think he knows?"
"Impossible," Judy reassured her. "Don't scare yourself. We were very careful about this."
"But Dad still found out."
"You think he just found out now? He's known for a long time."
"You're saying Dad knew all along? Then why didn't he expose us?"
"Your father is a very cunning man. Anyway, this isn't the time for that. You come home first, we'll play it by ear."
"My father is in the ICU, so... so she could have gotten one, but... but mine..." Yvonne suddenly remembered the party, how Penelope had rushed over and yanked out a lock of her hair. It was for this paternity test.
At the thought, Yvonne clenched her jaw.
"Regardless, she must have tampered with something! Grandpa, are you really going to believe her over me?" Yvonne asked, deliberately acting offended.
Hans' expression softened slightly, seeing Yvonne so steadfast.
"Of course I believe you, Grandpa's girl. But to shut Penelope up for good and stop her from causing trouble, I want you and your father to take another paternity test. Once your relationship is officially confirmed, Penelope won't be able to pull any more stunts."
Yvonne's heart trembled. "You say you believe me, but you're making me take a paternity test!"
Hans' brow furrowed. "What's the matter? Are you afraid?"
