On the day of the Walsh patriarch's birthday banquet, Natalie deliberately staggered her arrival time to avoid riding with Hassan.
She used her dance troupe as an excuse, telling Cecily that a last-minute contract signing had popped up, but she promised to rush to the banquet immediately after.
Thankfully, Cecily was preoccupied with other matters and didn't press her. "Alright, just make sure you get there early. It's incredibly rude to be late."
Natalie nodded in agreement.
She had already mapped out a game plan with Marvin Ford regarding the banquet.
Since she had no choice but to attend, her only option was to make sure Warren Walsh couldn't recognize her.
Natalie decided to go heavy on the makeup. Back in the day, when she used to run wild with her two childhood friends, she rocked dramatic looks all the time. After their falling out, she had completely dropped the aesthetic.
Luckily, muscle memory hadn't failed her. She stared into the mirror with deep satisfaction. The aggressive, smoky-eye makeup completely transformed her face. Even she barely recognized herself—there was no way Warren, who had only seen her twice in his life, would connect the dots.
When she arrived at the Walsh Estate, she immediately spotted Gardenia Sutton handing her invitation to the staff at the entrance.
As Natalie walked up, she overheard the Walsh family's staff respectfully greeting Gardenia by name. They clearly knew her well.
Furthermore, Gardenia had her own standalone invitation, meaning she had been personally invited by the Walsh family.
Natalie briefly wondered if the Walsh family was already trying to curry favor with the presumptive future Mrs. Carlson, before stepping further into the courtyard.
A few socialites were huddled together, gossiping. "I heard the old man invited a few of the students he sponsored over the years. Apparently, they've all turned out to be incredibly successful. Mr. Walsh really does have an eye for talent."
It clicked for Natalie. Gardenia was one of the charity cases Stewart Walsh had sponsored.
One of the women leaned in, lowering her voice. "I also heard one of them managed to hook up with the Carlson family's eldest grandson. That's quite the leap up the social ladder."
