Her chest tightened as if squeezed by an invisible hand. Her pupils dilated, her mind completely blanking out.

A cold breeze brushed past her ear as Cecily moved to leave the room. Natalie grabbed her wrist. "It's not that I don't want a child."

It was Hassan who didn't want one. He already had a son. The Carlson family already had their precious heir!

She wanted to scream the truth, but then a chilling realization stopped her. Once she lost her final shred of value as a breeding tool, would Cecily still pay for the surgery?

Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Hassan is in love with Gardenia. He's the one who doesn't want a child."

Cecily's expression darkened. "I'll handle him. And after your final performance, you will drop all dance troupe activities and focus entirely on preparing for pregnancy."

That night, Natalie sat on the edge of her bed, staring vacantly into space.

When the door opened, a wave of freezing air swept into the room. Long legs crossed the floor toward her.

"What did you say to my grandmother?" Hassan asked, his tone deceptively casual.

She raised her eyes, her gaze eerily calm. "I was going to ask you the same thing. Why did she have the divorce papers? We agreed to wait until after my grandmother's surgery to tell her."

He casually tossed his suit jacket aside, loosened his tie, and sat next to her. "It was an accident."

"An accident you caused. She told me that if I don't get pregnant in two months, she's canceling the surgery."

Her eyes rapidly reddened, a sharp sting shooting up her nose. Unable to hold it in, she curled inward, pressing her hands over her face. A deep, overwhelming despair washed over her. She asked for so little in this life—just for her family to be safe.
