She had actually been played by Natalie!
Chloe took a few seconds to steady her breathing before picking up her shattered phone.
[Chloe: You little bitch! No wonder your mom died! You ruin everything you touch! Your dad doesn't even want you! Who cares if you're married to him! He still cheated on you with Gardenia! Nobody wants you!]
The vulnerabilities she had once confessed in confidence, the tears she had swallowed, the pain buried deep in her heart—all of it was weaponized into the sharpest blades, striking her exact weak points.
But Natalie had heard these insults a thousand times before. She was utterly numb to them.
[Natalie: I sent a copy to Hassan too. You're welcome.]
"Ahhh!" Chloe completely lost it, slamming the phone onto the floor until pieces of plastic and glass exploded across the room. Still not satisfied, she swept everything off her vanity—vases, mirrors, cosmetics. Bottles shattered, and expensive liquids bled across the floor.
Her hands shook uncontrollably. She couldn't even bear to imagine what Hassan would think of her if he saw those photos and realized the depth of her sick obsession.
She would not let Natalie get away with this!
Chloe had always looked down on Gardenia, but right now, taking down Natalie was her priority. She was even willing to play nice with the other woman to do it.
Grabbing a spare phone, she got Gardenia's number from a mutual friend and called her directly.
"I can help you take down Natalie," she said bluntly.
There was a pause on the other end before the reply came: "I don't need to take her down."
The response made Chloe grind her teeth in frustration. "If you don't knock her off her pedestal, are you just planning to be his mistress forever?"
"You're misunderstanding. We are just friends. It's not like that."
Chloe let out a cold, venomous laugh. "Everyone in our circle says you're his golden girl, the one that got away. Stop playing the saint!"
The call disconnected, sending Chloe into another fit of rage.
Since an alliance with that pretentious, sickening woman was off the table, Chloe came up with an even better plan—one that would kill two birds with one stone.
"Mr. Carlson, your wife had something delivered for you." His secretary placed a small paper gift bag on the executive desk.
The man set his documents aside and leaned back in his chair. The faint glow of the monitor reflected in his dark eyes, his face betraying a subtle exhaustion.
