"As long as you don't contact him, I won't do anything." His unspoken threat was crystal clear to Natalie.
She tried to yank her hand away, but his iron grip on her wrist meant any struggle only caused her sharp pain.
He was always like this, completely indifferent to her feelings.
"Since you don't want to work, stay home," his voice deepened. "I'm going on a business trip soon. Cecily will come over to keep the boy company, and you should use that time to bond with him."
"I'm going out with friends," Natalie retorted.
He frowned tightly. "You..." After a beat of silence, he spoke in a low voice, "Do whatever you want. Go out and have fun, just don't cause any trouble."
It sounded like a remarkably low bar for her.
Then he added, "But limit your contact with Nancy Gaines. We still haven't figured out her background, which proves she isn't simple."
"Got it," Natalie replied, not bothering to argue further.
She had zero intention of listening to him anyway.
Hassan clearly knew she was just humoring him, but given how much they had been fighting lately, this rare moment of compliance was enough to soften his temper.
His hand slid down her waist, pausing lightly over her abdomen. "Does it still hurt?" his deep voice gentled.
Natalie didn't answer. Keeping his grip on her hand, he led her back to the master bedroom.
"Let's put more ointment on it." He pulled the tube from his pocket, his long fingers moving to push her dress up.
"I'll do it myself," she frowned, deeply averse to his touch.
Hassan's fingers froze, his eyelashes fluttering briefly. After a second, he handed her the tube. "Remember to apply it every day. Don't get so caught up having fun that you forget."
"I know."
"Where are you planning to go with your friends?" he asked.
