Natalie barely stifled a laugh as she pulled out her phone. “Alright, I'll add them for now. I'll catch up with you later. I'm going to check out the other side.”
They finally parted ways.
As she walked down the corridor toward the other wing of the restaurant, she spotted Gardenia and Hassan walking just ahead.
A radiant smile was plastered across Gardenia's face as she looked up at him. “Why didn't you step in earlier and tell Professor Adler that Natalie is your wife?”
His response was cool and dismissive. “There was no point. We're divorcing soon anyway.”
Gardenia bit her lip gently. “Seeing how popular she is, I guess she won't have to worry about remarrying. Being that pretty really does open a lot of doors.”
Hassan glanced at his phone, his reply casual. “Are you saying you're not pretty?”
Her smile widened instantly. “You're just teasing me again. I could never compare to her.”
“A pretty face always fades,” he said flatly. “You don't need to compare yourself to her.”
Gardenia was clearly over the moon at his words.
Compliments hit completely differently when they came from a man like Hassan.
Nobody ever accused him of being a flatterer or telling white lies just to make someone feel better. If he said it, it meant it was exactly what he believed.
Natalie stared at her own reflection perfectly mirrored in the heavy glass doors.
Stepping out of the restaurant and into the hallway, she bumped right into Jude Sheridan.
In that exact second, Gardenia and Hassan—who had been keeping a respectable distance from each other—suddenly closed the gap. Seeing Jude, Gardenia immediately linked her arm through Hassan's, practically pressing herself against him.
Jude let out a mocking sneer. “Why so hostile? Hassan, we're supposed to be friends, right? Is this how you treat me?”
Gardenia gritted her teeth. “Jude, what the hell are you doing here?”
