Natalie paused, then nodded. "Alright. Why do you look so stressed?"

"Because I didn't like the tone of the request," Professor Adler replied.

She frowned. "What do you mean?"

"It sounded to me like they want to merge our teams."

Adler let out a cold scoff. "They're always so impatient. They seem to think groundbreaking research can be churned out in five minutes."

"We don't know exactly what they're planning yet. Let's just go and hear them out," Natalie said.

Adler looked at her in surprise. "You're handling this much better than I am."

Natalie didn't used to be this level-headed. But after everything she had endured with Hassan—the constant emotional whiplash, the extreme highs and devastating lows—she had naturally developed a thick skin for everything else.

She smiled. "It's a good opportunity for both teams to learn from each other. Who knows? Maybe they'll give us some fresh insight into the roadblocks we've been hitting."

"That's a fair point," Adler chuckled. "I'm the professor here, and I'm having to rely on you to talk me off the ledge. I'm almost embarrassed."

Marvin walked in just then, holding a drink, and looked between them. "Professor Adler, embarrassed? Well, since we've been working so hard, how about giving me half a day off to celebrate?"

Adler shot him a glare. "I'll give you ten seconds. Half a day? Keep dreaming."

Jett chuckled from his desk. "I'll take ten thousand of those ten seconds, please."

Joking aside, they quickly got back to business.

The dinner took place that evening at an incredibly exclusive, highly private restaurant.

Following Adler inside, Natalie was introduced to the rival team.

They were visibly stunned to see her. They hadn't expected someone so young to be a core member of Professor Adler's inner circle.

Natalie naturally looked youthful, but she was also meticulous about her skincare routine.

Even with her grueling lab schedule, she always made time for a facial at the spa on her days off, using it as an excuse to catch up on sleep.
