Natalie's heart gave a violent lurch.

Adler: [I saw the obituary on the financial news network three hours ago. He jumped off a building. They're saying it was suicide due to immense pressure at work.]

After leaving his position as an assistant, Elbert had taken a high-level executive role at a tech startup. The pressure undoubtedly would have been massive.

It was a perfectly plausible cover story.

But Natalie didn't buy it for a second.

Just recently, he had been plotting to use H to secure a massive payout. Why would someone with that kind of ambition suddenly jump off a building?

Natalie forced herself not to immediately contact Yale Easton.

That night, when she returned to Sycamore Quays, she found Hassan standing in front of the open fridge, taking out a bottle of water with one hand while holding his phone to his ear with the other. "We were only a few sessions away from confirming it. What a waste."

Her intuition immediately screamed that he was talking about Elbert. She paused in the entryway, slowly spritzing her hands with sanitizer.

"Yes, keep a close eye on the investigation results. Suicide is highly unlikely. If he really wanted to end his life, he wouldn't have agreed to return to the country with us."

He hung up, placed his phone on the counter, twisted the cap off the water, and took a long drink, his Adam's apple bobbing sharply.

He caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye and paused.

Natalie hung her bag on the coat rack, her eyes downcast. She didn't say a single word. As she finished hanging her bag, Faye walked over.

"Mrs. Carlson, is there anything you'd like to eat? I can get started right away. We just got a fresh delivery of crabs..."

Natalie shook her head. She rolled up her sleeves, exposing her pale wrists, and took off her watch. "No, thank you. I'm not hungry."

With that, she walked straight into her bedroom.

Faye watched her go, then cast a hesitant glance toward Hassan. "She said she isn't eating... what should we do with the crabs?"

Hassan unscrewed the cap again, his tone indifferent. "Leave them for now."

"Oh, alright." Faye lowered her head, swallowed her urge to gossip, and retreated to the kitchen.

Mary was still prepping the crabs. They both assumed Natalie would want them when she got home.

They were supposed to be served for dinner, but Hassan had told them to hold off until his wife came back.

For the past few days, Natalie had been coming home and asking for a late-night snack. Tonight, though, whatever she had eaten while she was out must have ruined her appetite.

Faye leaned in toward Mary. "Every time Mr. and Mrs. Carlson run into each other, they just stare at each other without saying a word. But when I was cleaning out the rooms, I saw so many pictures of them from the past. They looked so happy together."
