"What, are you going to haunt me as a ghost? Fine, whatever. Let's both die then. Either way, you have way more to lose than I do."
She wouldn't be the one losing out in that deal.
Hassan's Adam's apple bobbed heavily, and when he finally spoke, his voice was raw and impossibly dry. "You're wrong. You have far more to lose than I ever will, do you know that?"
By the end of his sentence, his voice was little more than a ghost of a whisper.
Natalie thought he was talking absolute nonsense.
How could that possibly be true? What did she even have left? She had to resort to begging Cecily just to get Dr. Weston to operate on Yvonne. She couldn't even give Nancy a normal life.
She possessed infinitely less than Hassan Carlson.
Adrian was miraculously gone from their bed. Hassan must have had someone take him away.
At least the man had some basic self-awareness. If that child had still been there, Natalie would rather have died than get into that bed.
The other woman's kid had been shoved back into the picture, branded with the Carlson name. She could temporarily pretend none of it had anything to do with her. After all, once the divorce papers were signed, anyone with the last name Carlson would be dead to her anyway.
But absolutely forcing her to sleep in the exact same bed as his mistress's son? She wouldn't accept that in a million years.
Before getting into bed himself, Hassan forced Natalie to drink a warm cup of tea.
She had been out in the night air for too long, leaving her hands and feet feeling like blocks of ice. The hot liquid instantly began to thaw the chill deep within her bones.
She slipped beneath the covers. The oppressive heat of the man's body radiated from the opposite side, prompting her to stubbornly roll over, putting as much physical distance between them as the mattress would allow.
Just as she was teetering right on the very edge of the bed.
A large, incredibly warm hand clamped shut around her slender wrist and effortlessly hauled her backward.
A solid, burning hot body pulled her firmly against his chest.
Natalie shoved him away instantaneously.
She absolutely refused to play house with Hassan anymore.
"Keep to your side of the boundary," she ordered with frigid indifference.
