If she told Cora, and Cora got reeled back in, only for Jude to remain exactly the same as before...

Could Natalie bear the responsibility for that fallout?

She was terrified that Cora would end up as miserable as she was.

After a moment of silence, she asked, "Have you brought up divorce with him?"

Cora lowered her gaze. "I have. He said as long as I can handle the Vance family, he doesn't care. He said he's free to love someone else and be with them, and I'm free to do the same. He wouldn't mind."

The two families had been intertwined through marriage for years, their financial interests deeply tangled.

Getting the Vance family to agree to a divorce was next to impossible.

Her marriage to Jude wasn't just about two people anymore; it was a business merger between two dynasties.

This wasn't the first time Cora had wanted a divorce.

But it was the first time she was truly resolute. She was willing to walk away with nothing, just for the chance to finally live for herself.

"If you really want this divorce, you have to give up your child," Natalie said softly. "The Sheridans will never let you take her."

Cora's eyes instantly welled up with red.

Natalie continued, "If you want to keep her, you have to stay. Listen to me, Cora. Mia is the only heir to the Sheridan family right now. Even if you're not there, they won't mistreat her. I know separating a child from her mother is awful, but if you fight for her, you'll be trapped in this exact spot for the rest of your life. Is that what you want?"

She gently squeezed Cora's hand. "Didn't you say you love photography? I have a friend, Coralie Chadwick, who's incredibly experienced in that field. I'll introduce you two later. You can go chase everything you've ever been passionate about."

Cora's fingers curled into tight, trembling fists as tears spilled down her pale face.

She already knew this deep down.

She couldn't take her daughter with her.

The agony of being separated from her own flesh and blood was unbearable.

Natalie pulled a tissue and handed it over. She didn't know why—she had never had a child of her own—but seeing Cora like this made her heart ache as if she were experiencing the exact same grief.
