He looked out the car window. "Weren't you the one who asked what I wanted?"

A long silence filled the car.

He closed his eyes, his voice soft. "Stop overthinking it. I don't want anything."

He didn't want her sleeping with him as part of some transactional deal, either. What was the point of sex without love? He was better off taking care of it himself.

Natalie truly couldn't fulfill that particular demand. "Besides that, you can ask for anything else."

His gaze caught for a second before he slowly turned his eyes back to her. "Anything else?"

"Yeah." Natalie thought for a moment. "We're going to divorce anyway. I don't want to owe you anything."

Hassan's expression completely darkened, his tone turning sluggish and cold. "You can't go three sentences without mentioning divorce. How badly do you want it? You don't want to owe me? Do you think you owe me little?"

"What else do I owe you?"

The only things Natalie could think of were trivial matters from the past.

He lowered his eyes, a faint, self-mocking smile playing on his lips. "Nothing. It was all willingly given."

Natalie didn't think too deeply about his words. "Have the driver drop me off at Sunriver Residences."

"With so little time left, you're not even willing to go home? Is there really nothing there you care about?"

"What is there to care about?"

"I... noticed you seemed quite fond of that dog." He kept his gaze on the window, making it sound like an offhand remark.

"Cecily is the one raising it."

"It's attached to you." His tone was flat. "If you like it, take it with you."

Natalie shook her head. "No. I don't want to take a single thing from that house."

The man's eyes grew darker, his lips pressing into a hard line.

They soon arrived at Sunriver Residences. When the car stopped, Natalie prepared to get out.

Hassan caught her by the wrist. His warm, dry thumb rested against her wrist bone, unconsciously tracing circles over her skin.

Natalie glanced down at his grip, then looked up, mildly confused. "Is there something else?"
