Natalie let out a scoffing laugh. "You're that confident I won't say a word?"

Hassan stared at her intensely, his eyes dark, but said nothing.

The family doctor emerged from the bedroom. "The fainting was brought on by extreme stress and anger. She'll recover shortly. I've administered some medication."

Natalie nodded. "Understood."

Once the doctor left, Gardenia turned to Hassan. "Hassan, I'm so sorry. I misspoke just now. I really didn't mean to blurt that out."

"I know," he replied softly.

The tone and volume of his voice were gentle.

Even though Natalie was standing right there, they acted as if she were completely invisible.

Natalie didn't stick around. She took Cup and left.

Gardenia watched her leave before asking him, "Is she still living with you?"

Hassan sat down on the sofa, his voice cool. "We're getting a divorce. Naturally, she moved out."

He added, "But you must not speak of this again. She doesn't know the full truth yet."

Gardenia reflexively argued back. "But even if she doesn't know now, so what? She's bound to find out eventually."

Hassan remained silent for a moment before replying, "Even if she has to know eventually, we can't let her know right now. Just learning about the child made her pass out from sheer anger today. Do you really think she can handle any more?"

Gardenia lowered her head, having nothing left to say. "I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to say those things to provoke her today. I was just so angry I spoke without thinking. Why haven't you come to see me these past few days?"

"I've been very busy lately," Hassan replied dryly. "Where were you? You took several days off work in a row."

A hint of grievance laced Gardenia's voice. "At least you noticed I took days off. You didn't even bother to ask what I was doing."

"You are entitled to your privacy. I respect that."
