Hassan fell silent.
Yale let out a dry laugh. "You're getting a divorce, which means you're finally free. So why do you look like death warmed over?"
Hassan shot him a cold glare. "Are you done checking her?"
Yale clicked his tongue. "Don't rush the doctor."
He closed his eyes, checking her pulse for another moment. "Sigh. You really do need to spend more time with her. Keep a close eye on her condition."
"I don't have the time," he replied.
"You say that now, but don't come crying to me later."
Natalie slept through the entire three-hour drive.
When she finally opened her eyes, she was tucked into bed at Sunriver Residences. Outside, the sky was pitch black.
She jolted upright.
Nancy's voice drifted over. "You're awake. Are you hungry? The warm soup is still fresh. Let me bring you a bowl."
Natalie immediately grabbed her hand, staring intensely at her face. "Nancy, I'm not dreaming, am I?"
She looked around the familiar room in complete bewilderment. "I... I was in the car, wasn't I? We were on our way to Cypress Lake to find you. How did I end up here?"
She rubbed her throbbing temples, trying to piece her memory together. She distinctly remembered being in the car, waiting to reach the lake.
Nancy pursed her lips. "Hassan brought us back."
Natalie threw her arms around her. "As long as you're safe! You terrified me. Why didn't you tell me Gideon was the man who had you?"
Nancy's body stiffened. "I was terrified of what he might do to you."
Natalie pulled back. "So, how exactly did Hassan get you out of there? What did he say to Gideon?"
