Natalie responded with a gentle, "Of course."

When the final bell rang, the area outside the school gates was packed.

Teachers personally escorted the children out, handing them over to their respective parents one by one.

As Natalie approached Mia’s class, she was surprised to spot a familiar face in the crowd.

It was Wendy, her grandmother’s caretaker. She was in her late fifties, efficient, and deeply attentive. Over the past few weeks, Natalie hadn't had a single complaint about her work and had even given her a raise.

What surprised Natalie was seeing her picking up a child here.

Taking care of Yvonne was a demanding, full-time job. There was no way Wendy had the time or energy to take on a second job.

Which meant the child she was picking up was most likely her grandchild.

But that made it even stranger.

This was an elite international private school with incredibly small class sizes and tuition fees well over a hundred thousand dollars a year.

Families who could afford to send their children here didn't typically have relatives working as hospital caretakers.

Natalie walked up to the homeroom teacher, planning only to grab Mia. But the teacher smiled and said, "You're here for Mia? And Adrian as well, right?"

Natalie paused. "Excuse me?"

"We got a call about Adrian today saying he’d be going home with Mia," the teacher explained quickly, practically ushering both kids into Natalie's hands.

Before Natalie could even process the mix-up, she noticed Wendy staring right at her.

A wave of blatant panic washed over the older woman's face. Her eyes darted around nervously before she managed a stiff, forced smile in Natalie's direction.

"Natalie, can I go to your house today?"
