"I think I understand," Mia said, squeezing her little hands together. "Natalie, I'll just play at your house for a little bit, and then I'll go back to my dad tonight."

Mia glanced out the window. "Huh? Natalie, are we going to Great-Grandma's house?"

Natalie, hyper-focused on maintaining a safe, unnoticeable distance from the luxury SUV ahead of them, was jolted back to reality by Mia's comment. She suddenly realized they were driving straight toward the Carlson Family estate.

But the SUV didn't pull into the estate. Halfway there, it took a sharp turn and completely lost her.

Natalie slowly brought the car to a halt, realizing the driver must have spotted her.

The only question was whether they had noticed her right from the start and intentionally led her toward the Carlson estate, or if they had simply realized they were being followed along the way.

She turned the car around, planning to head back to Sunriver Residences. Glancing in the rearview mirror, she saw Adrian still sitting perfectly silently in the back seat.

She had been so focused on her conversation with Mia earlier that he hadn't made a single sound, completely slipping her mind.

After a brief moment of consideration, she decided to head to Sycamore Quays instead. She needed to drop him off first.

She hadn't expected Hassan to be home so early from work.

He was dressed in casual loungewear, standing in the kitchen—a rare sight these days.

The penthouse featured an open-concept kitchen separated by massive glass panels.

So, the moment the front door opened, anyone in the kitchen had a clear view of the entryway.

Natalie knew Hassan had definitely seen her walk in.

But the man in the kitchen didn't react, his eyes lowered as he focused intently on whatever he was preparing.

Natalie knew he was a fantastic cook. Back in college, when he lived in an apartment off-campus, she used to visit him all the time just to eat his food.

But ever since he took full control of the Carlson Group, he rarely cooked anymore.

When Faye opened the door and saw Natalie, her face lit up with a surprised smile. She purposefully raised her voice, calling toward the kitchen, "Mrs. Carlson is home!"

Having fulfilled her basic moral obligation of returning the kid, Natalie had no intention of staying a second longer. She turned to leave immediately.

"Ma'am, aren't you going to stay for dinner?" Faye asked, trying to stop her when she saw she was about to walk out. "The food is basically done. Why don't you eat before you go?"
