The Year She Stopped Being Crazy for Him novel Chapter 423

"Grandfather."

Hassan's hoarse voice came from outside the door.

Standing in front of Augustus's desk, Natalie, who had been looking down, suddenly snapped her head toward the sound.

"What? Are you still holding onto hope for Hassan?" Augustus's gentle voice fell upon her. "All day long, from morning till night, Joelle has been the one taking care of him."

He wasn't speaking harshly. In fact, listening closely, one could even detect a hint of a smile in his voice, yet it sent chills down her spine, making her subconsciously hold her breath.

Natalie pressed her lips tightly together. "I understand. I won't come back."

He slowly peered at her over his reading glasses. "Although I punished Hassan, as your husband, he wasn't wrong to do what he did. His mistake was damaging the interests of the Carlson Group. I will help you with your grandmother's situation, but I expect the two of you to make a clean break."

The next moment, the man, covered in large patches of blood, forced the door open.

His face was pale, sweat dripping from his forehead.

Augustus looked at him with a heavy gaze. "Hassan, what are you doing?"

He staggered toward Natalie, lifting the hand resting by his side, as if to take hers.

"Hassan, have you forgotten what you said?" Augustus reminded him.

That hand paused in mid-air for a second before dropping back down, eventually coming to a stop three feet away from her.

His voice was flat. "Why are you here? I'll have Zeke update you on your grandmother."

He automatically assumed her reason for coming was to get news about her grandmother.

Natalie didn't argue. She stood there in silence.

Hassan looked at Jacob. "Take her out."

"No need. I'll leave on my own," she said, her voice low.

Jacob could tell that Hassan probably needed to speak with Augustus privately. He offered a word of advice: "Watch your wounds."
