Someone noticed that Hassan hadn't brought his son. "Hassan, how come you didn't bring your boy? We were all hoping to meet him."
"He's in class."
"Wow, working hard! Going to class even on a holiday. Definitely your son."
Zachary guided everyone to their seats, facilitating introductions around the room.
The private dining room had ceilings over three meters high, creating an expansive, airy feel. It even featured its own private lounge area by the entrance, furnished with plush sofas and a tea table where early arrivals could sit and chat.
In the center stood a massive, unified round dining table. The hollowed center was styled with an elaborate landscape of floral arrangements and miniature rockeries. Surrounding the perimeter were over thirty neatly arranged dining chairs. The vast tabletop was already loaded with cold appetizers, hot dishes, fruit platters, and an array of drinks.
Everyone sat in a massive circle, allowing for conversation without needing to shout.
Zachary did a quick headcount. "Hmm, is anyone missing? Let me check who isn't here yet."
"Gardenia isn't here yet." The woman who spoke was seated next to Zachary. She wore a Chanel suit, Bulgari jewelry, and had sleek, perfectly styled wavy hair. Her makeup was flawless, and she wore a sweet smile, though her sharp, uptilted eyes gave her a slightly unapproachable, almost menacing look.
Natalie's entire reason for coming today was this woman—Lara Rogers.
Her family was in real estate and were considered titans in the industry. Back in Northgate High School, Lara used her family's generous donations to the school as a shield to do whatever she wanted.
Cora had been targeted and relentlessly bullied by Lara simply because she was pretty, introverted, and quiet.
The situation had blown up once, and both sets of parents had been called in. However, Cora's parents hadn't even bothered to show up. It was practically a green light to her tormentors, signaling that she was an easy target with absolutely no one to back her up.
Cora had once taken a knife for Natalie.
Today, she was going to get justice for the weak, innocent Cora.
"Oh! Right, just Gardenia left. Lara, I remember you two were pretty close. Why don't you give her a call?" Zachary suggested.
Lara smiled, pulling her phone from her designer bag. "Sure. I bet she'll be thrilled and so surprised to hear from me."
Before she could even hit dial, the door to the private room swung open, and Gardenia appeared.
Instantly, everyone's eyes locked onto her, several people genuinely failing to recognize her at first glance.
