Tilda's voice turned icy. "I don't need to report my career moves to you, Natalie. But about my mother."
Her eyes immediately grew red. "What on earth did you say to Hassan? I tried to use a work excuse to see him today so I could beg for leniency, but he refused to let me in."
Guilt gnawed at Natalie's chest. She bowed her head. "I'm so sorry. Please don't worry, I'm going to fix this. I promise I won't let anything happen to her."
Tilda hefted a tray holding over a dozen coffees. "You better keep that promise."
Given the circumstances, Tilda's attitude was actually quite restrained.
In her eyes, every misfortune that had struck the Steele family lately was entirely Natalie's fault.
Natalie looked down, her spirit heavy. She walked back to the sofa and resumed texting Hassan.
"I'm waiting for you in the lobby."
"Hassan, I have a deal for you."
"It's about the project you're trying to secure."
"I know Seven."
She had sent dozens of similar messages, but he hadn't replied to a single one.
Natalie waited in the lobby until evening. Terrified of missing him, she didn't even dare leave to grab food. She survived on a single cup of water a receptionist had taken pity on her and brought over.
Slowly, the edges of her vision blurred. Her blood sugar was dropping again.
Suddenly, the revolving doors at the entrance spun.
Natalie's gaze snapped up. Julian was walking in, carrying a child's backpack and holding Adrian's hand.
She hesitated for a split second before marching right over.
The two of them naturally headed toward the VIP elevator.
The moment Natalie approached, security blocked her. "Ma'am, you can't go in."
Julian looked surprised to see her there, his grip on Adrian's hand tightening slightly.
"Julian, please take me up."
When they reached the executive floor, Julian led Adrian out. The staff barely batted an eye; it seemed Hassan often had his assistant pick the boy up and bring him to the office.
Natalie laughed bitterly to herself. She had waited down there all day like a fool.
Julian entered the office first. "Sir, I've brought the boy. Also, your wife followed us up from the lobby."
Hassan paused mid-signature, glancing up. "I'm not seeing her."
Natalie stormed right past Julian. "Hassan, I can get Seven to partner with you."
He calmly capped his fountain pen. "I don't need your help."
"She already rejected your offer. Don't you want this deal?"
The man met her gaze. "Even if we want to work with her, the Carlson Group has its own methods. We certainly don't need you. Besides, I highly doubt there's anything you can actually do."
Natalie gave a bitter smile. "Fine. Then try it your way. Let's see if your company can make her budge. Give me three days. If she still turns you down by then, give me a chance."
"You won't get that chance," he stated with absolute certainty.
