Tilda still gave her a frosty reception. As far as she was concerned, if Natalie hadn't been in the picture, none of this nightmare would have happened. Natalie was the root cause of the chaos.
So even though she fixed it, Tilda felt it was nothing more than her basic obligation.
Yvonne's voice was hoarse as she clutched Natalie's hand. "Natalie, what on earth is going on? You were kidnapped? Why didn't you ever mention this to me? How could you just swallow something so horrific all on your own? If this investigation hadn't happened, I never would have known."
Natalie took a deep breath, the back of her eyes immediately burning.
Her grandmother was the only one who genuinely cared about her safety.
All the suppressed terror and grievance from that night suddenly welled up.
For so many nights, whenever she remembered being taken, she hadn't shed a single tear. But here, holding her grandmother's hand, she finally broke down.
Her voice caught in her throat. "I'm sorry, I just didn't want to worry you. And look, I made it back safely, didn't I?"
Yvonne wiped the tears from Natalie's cheeks. "Thank God someone saved you. Who was it? We absolutely have to give them a proper thank you."
Natalie shook her head. "I don't know."
If she knew, she would have thanked them a thousand times over without needing to be told.
But she had zero memory of the person from that night.
She guessed she must have passed out before whoever it was pulled her to safety.
And they hadn't left a single clue behind.
Sometimes, she genuinely wondered if some guardian angel was looking out for her, sending a stranger to rescue her from such a desolate wasteland.
Yvonne sighed heavily. "What a shame. Well, I hope that good Samaritan lives a long, blessed life."
Natalie nodded in agreement.
But Tilda crossed her arms and spoke coldly. "Natalie, you've seen her. She's fine. Now leave."
Her next hurdle was the in-person meeting with the Carlson Group.
They would undoubtedly ask a barrage of highly technical questions.
If she couldn't show up herself, she needed a proxy to go in her place.
When Nancy heard the plan, she hesitated briefly before offering, "I'll do it. I'll go for you."
Natalie was silent for a long time before she spoke. "Nancy... can you finally tell me why you're living under a fake name? If you don't tell me, I can't let you do this. It's too dangerous. I'll just find someone else, or I'll ask Marvin to go."
"Everyone knows Marvin is basically just your middleman. How could he realistically stand in for you?" Nancy waved a hand dismissively. "Besides, I have a fake ID, don't I? Hassan's elite circle of friends never caught onto me. Some random corporate manager signing a contract definitely won't notice a thing."
Natalie still had no idea where Nancy had procured her forged identity, but it was undeniably flawless. It had never failed her yet.
Nancy patted her hand, offering a reassuring smile. "I barely go out anyway. I'm just trying to keep my profile low. Going in to sign a piece of paper for you is nothing. I'll be fine."
Natalie stared at her, weighing the risks, before finally nodding in agreement.
