The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 106

Mirage Studio was usually a quiet place, but today a low buzz of chatter slowly filled the office as small groups of people huddled together, whispering.

Mia was perched on the edge of someone else’s desk, completely absorbed in some shocking piece of gossip.

Suzie glanced over at her briefly before returning her attention to the photography materials spread out before her.

A moment later, Mia scurried over, holding out her phone for Suzie to see.

On the screen was a news article with a headline that prominently featured the name “Jamie.”

Suzie’s first instinct was to wave the phone away.

But Mia tapped the screen insistently. “Suzie, look! The Baylor Group is about to be thrown into chaos. I wonder if that handsome, overbearing CEO is seriously ill.”

Suzie’s heart began to pound against her ribs. It wasn't an obituary, which meant Jamie wasn’t dead.

The rush of relief made her feel a little ridiculous. She slowly forced her eyes to focus on the screen. The article was vague, offering no specifics about the reason for his hospitalization or his current condition.

It only mentioned that he had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance, followed by media speculation about the future of the Baylor Group. Most of it revolved around whether the company would descend into chaos without Jamie at the helm.

Mia swiped through the gallery, showing her the accompanying photos.

One picture in particular caught Suzie’s eye. It showed a long, sterile hospital corridor lined with bodyguards. Chloe’s figure was clearly visible among them.

That wasn’t surprising, but what was shocking was the person standing in a corner not far from Chloe. The side profile looked exactly like Lexi.

From the look of the photo, it was obvious the entire floor had been cleared out for him.

When she entered, she found Harrison sitting at his desk, a weary expression on his face. He nodded slightly as she came in. “Suzie, have a seat.”

Suzie sat down slowly on the sofa, wondering if his foul mood was related to what had happened with Oliver’s parents. She decided it was best not to ask.

“Take a look at this.” As soon as she was settled, Harrison had his assistant hand her a file.

She opened it and found a new photography contract. The client was, once again, the Baylor Group—and this time, the order was from the parent corporation itself.

“Is… is this for me to shoot?” Suzie asked, stunned.

Harrison rubbed his temples and nodded. “Are you physically up for it?”

Suzie paused to think. Her body felt fine now; she was safely past the volatile first trimester of her pregnancy.
