The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 112

What could she do?

The more Suzie thought, the more despair washed over her. Even setting aside her principle of not using her friends’ money, the combined savings of Stella and Oliver wouldn’t come close to the millions she now owed.

As Suzie sat there, numb and on the verge of tears, Mia returned with a group of people to help retrieve the equipment from the pool. Someone must have immediately reported the incident to Harrison, because he soon rushed to the scene.

His face was just as pale as Suzie’s, if not more so. Seeing her sitting dazedly in the chair, he strode over quickly.

“Suzie, try to stay calm. Your health is the most important thing right now. I’m going to contact some friends in the industry to find out more about this equipment. If it’s waterproof, we might be okay.”

Harrison’s attempt at comfort only made Suzie feel worse. She felt so useless.

When the model had complained, she should have called the manager to handle it instead of confronting the woman herself. Ever since she had decided to keep the babies, she had sworn to avoid conflict at all costs, tolerating whatever came her way. Why couldn't she hold her tongue today?

Even if the equipment turned out fine, what if *she* had been the one to fall in? Either way, the outcome would have been a disaster. It just proved what she already believed: a moment of patience could have prevented a storm of trouble.

When Suzie didn’t respond, her gaze remaining vacant, Harrison offered a few more words of reassurance before hurrying off to deal with the equipment.

Mia quietly stepped over to Suzie, tears streaming down her face. She began to sob. “Suzie, I’m so sorry. When Sabrina pushed Zina, I should have shoved them both out of the way instead of just pulling you back. Suzie…”

As they spoke, the distinct, rhythmic click of high heels approached, followed by a familiar female voice.

“I heard something dramatic happened here?”

At the sound of the voice, Suzie slowly lifted her head. It was Chloe, striding toward them in stiletto heels and a designer dress, her makeup flawless. Two grim-faced men followed behind her.

This was a Baylor Group shoot at a Baylor Group studio, a workplace that had nothing to do with Chloe. Her showing up at a time like this could only mean trouble.

Suzie averted her gaze, forcing herself to remain calm.
