The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 111

But… this whole mess only happened because Sabrina started it.

Mia was on the verge of tears, stomping her foot in frustration. “But you started it! You can’t just walk away from your responsibility!”

Sabrina glanced down at Mia with contempt. “Responsibility? What does a little girl like you know about anything? Just you wait and see if the Baylor Group comes after you or me. Hmph!”

“You!” Mia was so furious she could barely breathe, and she had no choice but to retreat to Suzie’s side.

Emboldened, Sabrina crossed her arms again, staring at Suzie and Mia with the triumphant gaze of a victor.

At this point, the onlookers, fearing they might get drawn into the trouble, quickly dispersed. Zina saw her chance and scurried away with them.

Sabrina, however, strolled leisurely over to Suzie. “Just a little reminder for you,” she said with a smirk. “Even if it wasn't intentional, you can't escape civil liability. That means you’ll have to pay for this entire set of equipment. As for the price, I might as well tell you—it’s exactly what they said earlier. So much for your arrogance, huh? Hahahaha…”

With a final, disdainful look at Suzie, Sabrina walked away from the pool area, her mocking laughter echoing behind her.

Mia looked at Suzie, who seemed about to collapse, and quickly supported her. “Suzie, are you okay? Here, come sit down. Try not to worry too much. This was an accident. We’ll talk to the boss and figure out a way to communicate with the Baylor Group.”

Leaning on Mia, Suzie made her way over, feeling sick with dread. As soon as she sat down, Mia asked anxiously, “Suzie, is that equipment really as expensive as they claimed?”

Suzie gently cradled her belly, not saying a word, but her dazed nod was answer enough.

Suzie stared blankly at the gentle ripples still disturbing the pool's surface, her face growing paler by the second. From the moment the equipment hit the water, she had been rendered speechless. She had barely registered Mia arguing on her behalf, the words a muffled buzz in her ears.

She had thought that after this shoot, she could take her annual leave along with her maternity leave. With the bonus from this job, the money Jamie had given her at the hospital, the bonus from Lexi's shoot, and her salary…

Suzie had believed it would be enough. Enough to cover the delivery costs for her babies and all their expenses after they were born without any worry. She had even hoped she might be able to afford a stay at a postpartum recovery center, so she wouldn’t have to burden Stella and Oliver.

But in just a few short minutes, all her hopes and plans had been washed away.

For her, it felt as if her world had come crashing down.
