The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 173

He then ordered the entire team to work around the clock to get the results as fast as possible.

After the sample was collected, Suzie sat in the hallway as if her soul had left her body. She stared blankly at the floor, her face as pale as a sheet. Her lips trembled slightly, as if she wanted to say something but couldn't find the words.

Even though the procedure had been conducted in secret, she felt as if her dignity had been shattered on the floor. The man who didn't love her believed she had been with another man. The whole grand spectacle of a paternity test was an insult in itself.

It was like a sharp knife plunging cruelly into her heart, breaking it into a million pieces.

The sterile hallway was empty except for Aaron, who sat on a chair with a few bodyguards by his side. Time ticked by slowly, and it felt like an eternity before Jamie emerged from one of the rooms.

When his leather shoes came into her line of sight, Suzie slowly lifted her tear-streaked face. Her lips moved, and she finally managed to speak, her voice filled with pain and helplessness.

“Jamie, why are you doing this to me?”

Jamie’s throat bobbed. He sat down slowly beside her, his expression growing even darker. His lips were pressed into a tight line as if he were struggling to control his emotions.

Watching her, Jamie paused for a moment before getting up and following her. The sound of his footsteps echoed in the silent hallway, each heavy step seeming to broadcast his inner conflict.

Inside the elevator, Suzie pressed herself into the farthest corner, maintaining as much distance from him as possible. She stared blankly out the glass wall at the city’s neon lights. The faint scent of his cologne, mixed with an antiseptic smell, occasionally drifted over to her.

His tall figure stood with its back to her, spine straight, exuding an air of confidence. But for Suzie, he no longer held the same attraction. He felt like a stranger, someone she had never known at all.
