The lighting was dim, but she had noticed a dark patch on the woman’s waist, something that looked like a birthmark. Suzie had no such mark. But she decided to keep that secret to herself.
She was about to leave this place and never return. Let him think she was a cheating wife. Let him stew in the humiliation of being made a fool of.
In fact, Suzie now found herself hoping that this new paternity test would also be wrong. If it was, he would slowly forget about her after she was gone and wouldn't bother searching. But if he knew the children were his, he would undoubtedly use every resource at his disposal to find her.
Her answer clearly displeased Jamie. He shot up from the sofa, let out a cold scoff, and stormed out of the bedroom.
Suzie tiptoed to the door and watched until he was safely down the stairs.
Then she slipped into his study.
She found the photos in the bottom drawer of his desk. Taking out her phone, she photographed every picture that showed the woman's face clearly. She sent them all as picture messages to Stella with a text: “This isn’t me. Save these for now. We can investigate later.”
After clearing her call logs and messages, she powered off the phone and returned it to the spot where Ruby used to keep it before heading back downstairs.
Lucy was waiting at the dining table with a bowl of soup and an array of prenatal supplements.
As Suzie sat down, she asked, “All this…?”
“Mr. Baylor ordered it all for you,” Lucy replied respectfully, her eyes widening in surprise as she looked at Suzie’s face.
Noticing Lucy’s stare, Suzie subconsciously touched her cheek. “What is it, Lucy? Is there something on my face?”
