The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 269

At the question, Oliver’s fists clenched involuntarily. He remained silent for a moment before speaking slowly.

“It’s… a long story. The gist of it is that a long time ago, his father and my father had a deep-seated rivalry in the business world. I don’t know the specific details. Now that his parents have moved abroad, Jamie has taken over all their business operations. His methods are just as ruthless as his father’s, and he’s constantly working against my company.”

“On top of that, do you remember that time at the diner? When I got into a fight with his assistant? His assistant threatened me, telling me to stay away from you or he’d make sure I lost everything and couldn’t survive in Mornhaven. There were just too many reasons for me to suspect him…”

Suzie frowned. “What did the police say? Did they find any leads?”

She found it hard to believe Jamie was responsible. His personality could be abrasive, but she didn’t think he was inherently malicious.

Oliver shook his head. “No leads… Anyway, let’s not talk about this so early in the morning. I’ll go get you a glass of milk.”

Suzie nodded.

A few moments later, Oliver returned with the milk. He placed it on the table, then walked to a corner of the living room and opened a suitcase.

From it, he took out a sun hat, a face mask, sunglasses, and a loose, bohemian-style dress.

“Suzie, after you finish your milk, change into these. I’ll take you out to get familiar with the area. It’s good for you to walk around a bit more now.”

Suzie looked at the items he was holding and gave a wry smile. “Is all this really necessary?”

Oliver’s expression mirrored her own. “That madman is searching for you like he’s possessed. With the internet being what it is, and this being a tourist town, what if someone takes a picture of you and posts it on social media? He’d find you in no time.”
