"Then pinky promise," Zoey said brightly.
"Pinky promise."
Kids were incredibly resilient. They didn't understand the concept of holding grudges. Most of them could be engaged in a bitter feud one second and go back to being best friends the next.
The adults in the room, however, were an entirely different story.
Myron shuffled over to Suzie, extending a fleshy hand with a slick, practiced smile. "You certainly have a gift for raising children, Mrs. Wycliffe. I could learn a thing or two from you. May I ask your first name?"
Suzie gave him a withering look. "My name is Mrs. Wycliffe. Excuse me."
She turned her back on him, shook hands with the principal and the teacher, offered a few polite parting words, and then led her children out of the office, with Hayden and Mia right behind them.
Myron's face darkened into an ugly scowl as he walked out behind them, while Nadia's expression remained twisted with resentment.
He immediately laid into his wife. "What the hell is wrong with you today? You knew damn well our son clashed with the Sugar Buddies, and you dragged me out here acting like we owned the place. These aren't the kind of people you can just bulldoze over with your temper tantrums."
Nadia glared right back at him. "Are you happy now? You forced your own flesh and blood to grovel for an apology. I suppose that makes you feel like a real big man."
"What do you know?" Myron roared. "Do you have any idea how much money Starlight Entertainment loses by not signing them? Now that we've had this blowout, how am I supposed to approach them when their contract with the Baylor Group expires? I told you to stay out of company affairs, but you never listen. Besides, our kid was the one lying to begin with."
Nadia refused to back down. "So what if we lost them? We can sign other influencers. We didn't have them before, and we didn't exactly starve, did we? How long are a bunch of brats going to stay relevant anyway? The internet will get bored of them soon enough."
"And so what if our son lied? You handle that at home. You don't hang him out to dry in front of strangers. Did you see how fiercely that woman protected her own kids?"
He couldn't fathom what kind of cosmic luck Hayden had stumbled into to land a trophy wife with those kinds of curves.
No wonder they kept the identity of the Sugar Buddies' mother a total secret from the internet.
Hayden was keeping her entirely to himself. Parading a woman that breathtaking in front of the public eye was simply begging for trouble.
Her flawless features, deeply expressive dark eyes, full, inviting lips, luminous skin, and that utterly stunning figure...
Even the fierce way she had stared him down earlier only made him want to conquer her even more.
His mind spiraled into graphic, dirty fantasies, practically salivating at the thought.
