As the reality of her situation finally caught up with her, Suzie fought to steady her racing heart. She leveled a glacial glare at him.
Being this close to him, the raw intensity in his eyes sent a chill straight to her bones.
It wasn't just anger burning in those dark depths. It was pure, unadulterated hatred and obsession. He looked as though he wanted to devour her, to tear her apart limb from limb.
While she stared him down, his hand rose, trembling slightly as his fingers brushed the side of her face.
She snapped her head away instantly, her free hand blindly searching the door panel for the handle.
With a sharp click, the child locks engaged. He had trapped her.
"Are you out of your mind?" Suzie yelled, panic flaring.
"Do you even remember that I exist?" he roared back, closing the sliver of space between them.
She had zero desire to deal with his madness. Shoving her hands against his solid chest, she commanded coldly, "Let me go!"
But no matter how hard she pushed, he didn't budge an inch. In the next second, his fingers roughly seized her chin, forcing her to look at him.
"Get your hands off—" She glared at him, fighting his iron grip.
But the words were swallowed the moment his mouth crashed down on hers.
It was a punishing, violent kiss. He held her jaw captive, claiming her lips with a desperate, destructive hunger, as if trying to consume her entirely.
Pinned beneath his crushing weight, she couldn't move.
Once she finally caught her breath, Suzie realized she was still trapped beneath him. She shot daggers at him. "Let me go!" she seethed.
He shifted, sliding back onto the seat beside her, but in the same fluid motion, his arms banded around her waist and hauled her directly into his lap.
It happened so fast she had no time to brace herself before she was locked against his chest.
His thumb stroked her jawline as he asked in a frigid tone, "Were you planning on hiding from me for the rest of your life?"
She jerked her head away with all her might, but he effortlessly forced her to look back at him. "What the hell is your heart made of?" he demanded, his voice cracking with emotion. "Why did you run away? Why did you vanish without a trace? Why?"
She kept fighting, stubbornly thrashing in his embrace. With her arms pinned, she could only flail her wrists, her fingers grasping at empty air.
"Answer me!" he roared right next to her ear. "Why did you hide from me?"
