Suzie dragged her gaze away from his imposing figure and cut straight to the chase. "Mr. Baylor, you know exactly why I'm here."

Jamie's dark, fathomless eyes locked onto hers. His lips parted slightly. "I don't. But feel free to enlighten me."

Suzie's jaw tightened. He's playing games. This was going to be impossible.

She decided to stick strictly to corporate protocol. Standing up, she pushed the legal file across the table until it rested in front of him. "If you'd look at the highlighted section, this is the core of our dispute."

Jamie barely glanced at the paper before looking back up at her. "I was under the impression you weren't heading this project. Is Timefly Studio usually this sloppy with its management?"

"I didn't sign the initial contract, but I'm overseeing all subsequent operations," Suzie replied smoothly. "We have the formal handover documents. I can fax them to your assistant tomorrow." She had anticipated every trick he might pull and came prepared.

Jamie continued to flick his lighter. Click. Clack. After a long, tense silence, his deep voice resonated in the room. "If your paperwork is so thorough, where is the proof?"

"What proof are you referring to?"

Jamie tapped a long finger against the highlighted text. "Right here. Hayden Wycliffe."

Suzie paused. He wanted proof that Hayden was the children's legal guardian.

"Mr. Wycliffe is the legal guardian of the Sugar Buddies cast," she stated calmly. "He is not their biological father, but he holds legal guardianship. That certification is at the bottom of the stack."

She waited for him to flip through the pages, but he didn't move a muscle. Instead, he just stared at her, as if expecting her to serve it to him on a silver platter.

"Did you live a fairy-tale life these past four years without me? Did you find the world's greatest treasure?"

"Jamie Baylor!"

The simmering tension finally boiled over. Suzie slammed her hands on the table and stood up, her voice trembling with cold fury. "If you refuse to review the documents, then drop the lawsuit immediately. You're busy, I'm busy. Stop wasting my time!"
