The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 526

The Baylor family was ultimately ruled by Richard. The first time Suzie met Jamie's parents, they hadn't explicitly opposed the union, but they certainly hadn't looked thrilled about it either. The entire meeting had felt more like a stiff, high-stakes corporate negotiation...

As Suzie was lost in her memories, Jamie's voice broke through.

"I don't like to beat around the bush. My parents think your background isn't good enough for the Baylor family, but they have no choice but to obey my grandpa's orders. So, their compromise is keeping the marriage a secret. Don't worry, I will figure out a way to persuade them otherwise."

Suzie stared at Jamie, her eyes swirling with complex emotions.

Was his memory really stuck in the days leading up to their wedding?

If his memory was accurate, he had intended to fight his parents on it. But back then, they *had* kept the marriage a secret. Had his parents refused to budge?

She mentally replayed every single word he had said since waking up.

A sickening suspicion began to form. Was he faking this amnesia? Was this all an elaborate, manipulative ploy to explain away the past and erase all the trauma and resentment she held against him?

But the look in his eyes, the absolute sincerity in his tone... it didn't seem fake. Suzie's mind was a chaotic mess.

"Suzie," Jamie said softly. "Are you alright with using the Baylor Manor as our primary residence? The villa Grandpa brought you to visit. If you don't like it, I can purchase a new property for us."

Suzie's lips parted, but no sound came out. That was exactly what he had said to her years ago.

But her thoughts were too turbulent, too exhausting. She didn't want to stay here a second longer. She refused to let him drag her down memory lane because none of it mattered anymore.

Taking a deep breath, she snatched his phone from the sofa, tapped the screen a few times, and held it up.

"Mr. Baylor, you fell down a flight of stairs today and hit your head. I suggest you look very closely at the year your grandfather sent you those messages, and then look at the current year on your calendar."

With that, she tossed the phone back onto the sofa, grabbed her bag, and practically bolted out of the hospital room.
