Suzie answered quickly, and the sweet cries of "Mommy!" rang out from the screen. A cluster of little faces crowded the frame.
Mia laughed. "We're eating lunch. Are you in a car, Suzie? Have you not eaten yet?"
"Yeah, I'm out running some errands. I'll eat in a bit," Suzie replied.
"Mommy, Mommy, look who's here!" Zoey popped her head onto the screen. It looked like she was grabbing Mia's hand, turning the phone's camera around.
Suzie was speechless.
Jamie's striking, almost AI-perfect face suddenly appeared on the screen.
Why was he there again?!
"Mommy, why do you look upset?" Zayn squeezed into the frame and asked.
Suzie quickly dropped her cold expression, smiling warmly. "Zayn, be good. Mommy's not upset. I just remembered something for work, so I looked a bit serious."
Zeke chimed in, "Mommy, Mr. Baylor said from now on, on weekends, we'll only shoot for half a day. Then, in the afternoon, he's taking us to the amusement park, and tonight we're all having barbecue."
Suzie's expression cooled again. She said sternly, "Have the three of you forgotten what I said?"
Zoey interrupted, "Mommy, we didn't forget! It's like this: you said you'd take us to the amusement park this afternoon, right? When we were chatting with Mr. Baylor, we mentioned it, and he said he was free this afternoon too."
Suzie slapped her forehead. She had promised them that morning before leaving the house, but between her morning with Nadia... she had completely forgotten!
Then Zeke added, "Mommy, what's wrong?"
Zoey pouted and complained, "Mommy promised to take us to the amusement park ages ago, and it's been so long, but you still haven't. Are you gonna flake on us again today?"
